  2. That sounds like a witch's chant Dave . I assume we are talking about the new key ,yes?
  3. Hi Dave Welcome to the Forum Try this First, put your BMW key in the ignition, rapidly turning it to position 1. Quickly do this 5 times in a row. Then, take your key out of the ignition. Press the BMW logo on your BMW key fob 3 times while holding down the unlock button. Let go of the unlock button after the third time you’ve pressed the BMW Logo Good Luck Dave
  4. Nice fine, thanks, but the manuals are not free. Still worth the price. Thanks again!
  5. I'm sure this quetion has been asked before so a link will suffice I'm a new BMW owner and I need a spare key fob. Looking online it appears you can program a new key fob by holding it against a marking on the steering column but I don't see this mark on my 2011 118i sport. Is the mark only on certain models, if so is there a way to program a key fob without paying a dealer silly money for a new one?
  6. I have just had a drive train issue on my 220 Gran Tourer auto at 37,000 miles and my BMW dealership is quoting £12.5k for a new gearbox. Can you add me to the list with regard to a collective complaint.

  9. Hi Dave. Thank you for your quick reply. SCARY is the first thing that comes to mind especially as I can no longer do my own work on my cars unless it is something like changing wiper blades and stuff that does not require a garage for shelter in the event of bad weather ! I will sound-out my Indy as I have been using him on my previous 4No E45's. A very very brief word with him a little after opening up your post revealed that the transmission service on the forthcoming E63 involves a new sump (made of plastic !!!) which has an integral filter as part of the construction. He was talking a figure circa £450.00. We will see when the time comes.
  10. OK can you not raise the car and through the engine bay pull the bonnet release cable, once you have access to the engine bay you should be able to change the battery and power the door locks The only car I have had real problems with had no battery fitted at all Good Luck
  11. Morning Mobeen Copies of INPA/ISTA are mainly pirate so not knowingly sold by members So you will need to search the internet if buying I would make sure the Software and Cable are together also be aware that some versions will not work on a 64bit system (mine runs on an old Windows 7 32bit system) Good Luck Dave
  12. Morning Alan I would think if it is possible it needs activation in the Operating system However I have to ask "Why" all my BMW's have had voice activation to some degree but I have never used it I tried on the early X5 then it was Radio and Phone only and to say the least it was not good !! A request like "phone home" would be answered with something unrelated like Radio 4 selected 🤣 So I have never bothered since all the buttons work and so do my fingers 😅😂 Dave
  13. Morning John Not just the marques you name the poor old gearbox and Diffs are probably the most abused parts of any car. With most Garages Oil and Filters and a quick visual inspection is seen as a service (time is money) ZF Service intervals are 60k to 100k Kilometres (about 60k miles) So "sealed for life" for most Marques meant "End of Warranty Responsibility" My X5 E53 4.6is was serviced by ZF the cost was £630 (8 years ago) but they pulled the Mechatronic unit serviced it and fitted new seals flushed the Torque converter the put it all back. Even though my box was smooth it felt better after service. My X5 E70 I have doe myself using genuine ZF parts cost was £220 Fluid Filter Sump Seal and Bolts (Euro Car Parts last year) I also changed fluid in both Diffs and Transfer Case Check Google for ZF specialists or a ZF service centre for costs if your not into DIY Dave Tip make sure you can undo the fill plug before draining the fluid I had to help a friend who had drained his box then couldn't undo the Fill plug and damaged it
  14. Hi everyone I have a 2006 760Li that has some issues. I have bought an INPA / ISTA compatible cable but need to get the software. Is there someone on here who sells the software? I would need help setting it up as well. Car has had the following replaced: Seats, Logic 7 amp and ASK unit (yes, car already had logic 7), steering angle sensor, complete rear suspension including struts, blue/red pipes and compressor, and a brand new BOSCH battery. Apparently some of these needs some sort of coding? What do I need for that? Any help would be very much appreciated. Happy to pay anyone willing to help over whatsapp video call to take me through things.
  15. Update: Hey everyone! I want to give a big thanks to all of you in the forum, especially those who shared helpful tips about my car search! So, about that window sticker, I just did a quick search on Google! I typed in "window sticker by VIN" and found this awesome website! It even lets you search for window stickers by license plate. How cool is that? Since I had the VIN number, I got myself a replica of the window sticker. Thanks a bunch for all your support, you guys are awesome!
  16. Hi. All of my Hey BMW commands work fine, except when trying to Command Open Drivers Window, Open Sun roof or Open sun blind, I get a response “this is not currently possible”. I have tried asking BMW but do not get consistent answers. Is this possible on a UK car running v9 OS? thanks in advance. Al

  18. Hi to you all out there. I am seriously perturbed about the somewhat cockeyed notion that gearboxes in both BMW and Mercedes Benz cars are seal for life and do not require servicing !! Indeed it has been said that they (both marques ) that they only need working on when they totally fail as functioning transmissions !! My question to the forum is simply - has anyone had or got a 635 Auto that has had had a transmission service or is booked in for one and what cost is involved ? I have scrutinized the documentation/service book/record and there is no evidence of the car having had a transmission service in the year since it was first registered in July 2008. albeit the mileage is now as 133,250 miles.

  20. Hi Stuart As Stu has said Welcome Clean the lights through the bulb holder space. Use a piece of sponge on the end of wire then cloth to dry out the condensation use a hair dryer or heat gun to make sure then a small bag of Silica Gel should keep things clear. Paul also posted a fix that may help Test and check the speaker connections as Stu says From memory the seat bolster has a hoop type support may be it is broken away at one end ? Never come across it but always possible Most important ENJOY your beemer Dave
  21. Welcome!! Enjoy your beemer. @Greydoghad good advice regarding fogging lights the other day, using them silica bags in the light holders. the stereo is either the wire or the speaker. Should be an easy job. the seat bolster could be something on the subframe moving or your hip? lol.
  22. Hi everyone. new member here and first time owning a bmw. Just picked myself up a 120d m-sport in estoril blue. its 11 years old and pretty tidy, but it does have a few issues I’m looking forward to getting stuck into sorting (Been years since I’ve had a car to work on) namely condensation on the headlights, drivers door speaker doesn’t work and the left bolster of the drivers seat makes quite a bad clicking sound with me in it while driving and moving around. So if you’ve any tips or tricks or can point me in the right direction that’d be great. cheers Stuart
  23. Great find Paul Hope its a success Dave
  24. For anyone else, found a great youtube footage on a fix for this, which is to use a self adhesive foam pushed between the 'eyebrow' and headlight which seals that route for water. You can then get lamps out use hairdryer to dry light out an a wire rid with cloth to clean the inside of the lens before putting headlight bulb back and back into service. Looks like a good fix, needs patience but best I have seen. Here is the link.
  25. …. I have had more BMWs than I have hair now! fault finding is a loss making business! 😂😂😂
  26. Hi Stu The only bit left is the air gap sensor to reluctor ring. Try measuring the air gap on one of the other wheels make sure the mounting area is absolutely clean and the sensor fully seated a small difference can make all the difference The X5 can still send you Bonkers Good Luck Dave
  27. Hi all… can someone confirm I’m not being stupid please. our French people carrier is doing my head in! its abs light is on and I’m trying to pinpoint the issue. plug the computer in (proper autel fr704 french poo jobbie ) and it tells me 1 fault is abs P2FOD code… now, it tells me to refer to the service manual, which tells me nothing else. So I put it on live data and turn each front wheel.. I’m getting a read out on the speed. Both seem good… both rear wheels are not giving any live speed readings. If I disconnect the lhs rear sensor, I get 2 faults.. one is the original and one is telling me the left is disconnected. Remover the right and only one fault, rhs disconnected…. Thus if I’m correct, the problem must be the rhs abs sensor. The module must be ok as it can distinguish if I have disconnected the sensor. … I have now changed the sensor, the brake disc, which has the reluctor ring on it and the holding plate for the sensor on the rhs, but I still get the one fault. It’s going for its mot next week I’m about to have a nervous breakdown with it! what am I missing? …. Clearly it’s not a bmw, which is a good enough reason! … never had this issue with my X5 lol.
