Injectors? Or Gearbox Service due / Low oil
X6M50d2025 replied to X6M50d2025's topic in BMW X6 Series Forum
Hi Dave Thank you very much for the reply, that's really handy information. I aim to keep it for as many 100k's as I can just to see how far it will go as my commuter. I shall get it booked in for the above so really appreciate the details. Darren -

Hi Andy did you find out what caused the problem, only asking as my 21 plate x5 has the exact same issue. Just trying to narrow it down to what it could be

Injectors? Or Gearbox Service due / Low oil
Greydog replied to X6M50d2025's topic in BMW X6 Series Forum
Morning Darren Welcome to the Forum Great motor First 110k is not high miles for one of these engines if it is well maintained my brother inlaws 540d xDrive Touring has been ECU tuned since new and produces 400+ hp is currently North of 200k and going strong A full Diagnostic check would/should tell you more, a smooth running test on the injectors will show any that are out of step. If the transmission hasn't had a service it is due one at 110k, both Diffs (Note the Rear Diff has two chambers which hold different fluids) will need service as will the Transfer case and Gearbox if your having this done at a Dealer it will not be cheap around £900 to £1000. Check Tyres carefully they should be the same make Front and Rear and prefferably BMW approved and star rated. Dave -

Hi All I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and any ideas... E71 2014 63reg X6 M50d, now on 110k 1 prior owner, FBMWSH upto date. So.... in January I experienced a noise under accelerating only which sounded a bit like an injector knock or due a service. Oil level good, never let me down in 10k, no smoke, average 29.5mpg, no power loss, no rough idle, no issues at all runs like new. So I had a full Service with best recommended oil including all filters and fuel filter. It didn't solve the issue. What I have now found is when driving under acceleration you get the noise but not if coast / slowing down. Its subtle and misses doesn't notice it, can't hear externally or if drive in a multistory etc just in cabin. Today I've found if parked in D on tick over I hear it how ever if in N I don't and not even when rev... Is it just a high miler issue / injectors tired but OK or something else like low Gearbox oil? Google states noises under load in Drive and not Neutral can be transmission or Injector so thought I'd ask people with a clue not google. Worst case I'll have Gearbox ZF Service done and injector test on all banks. Thanks in Advance.

Couple of the Volvos and Mercedes had the same system in the E55's and the CLS 63 I used to keep a pay as you go sim in them and set my phone on divert to that number if not answered, when I got in the car I turned off my phone worked really well I guess the next question is can you still get a Sim that will fit ??🤣 For the X5 so far I have a full set of PDC sensors , a coule of Ride Height sensors, a Final Stage Resistor and a couple of ULF (Bluetooth units) 17" spare wheel etc still got a load of stuff to sort through though Dave

Having a look round it, I’m a bit shocked… it’s quick, it’s big , it’s loud…. But it doesn’t have memory seats, auto tint mirror, auto lights or parking assist and even a stereo which my phone can connect to… it has a built in wired sim carded phone! Haha. it’s basically a big engine with a cool box in the glove compartment. 😂 … and it only has 18” wheels…. the X5 has started again and seems content that it’s not getting replaced. Vive le Bimmer!

Update on this. It was a terminal in the plug. Terminal was not making a good connection with one of the pins on the o2 sensor plug. Extremely annoying but fixed

thanks Greydog - yeah that's my worry and I guess you never find out what Admiral would pay out till you make a claim. Maybe after arguing and proving you can't source a similar car with similar condition they would pay up but I suppose 'similar condition' is a very vague thing. Thinking I'll pay the extra for agreed value policy. I'm just amazed Admiral can include 90 days free European breakdown cover for a 39 year old car - maybe they just have one guy in France with a 2CV and a tow rope Ken

Morning Ken Take care here my X5 E53 4.6is only 800 ever registered in the UK and less than 200 left on the road is on a Classic policy with agreed Value. My other cars are like you with Admiral the danger is that the mainline companies will use valations from an assessor employed by them or a general panel, ask We Buy any Car for an estimate of what your 635 is worth !! My agreed value is £9k (I was offered more last year at Goodwood) We Buy any Car tell me its worth £700 Just my thoughts Dave

I’ll line the fleet up when the x5 starts! I must have a drain from the rear bootlid somewhere… I’ll look when I get chance

Hi Folks, Am in the UK and about to buy a 40 year old M635csi. I got a quote from Hagarty for classic car limited mileage insurance at around £600 a year. This is based on it having a set agreed value so if it's a total write off or unrecovered that's what they pay you. I was surprised to find that Admiral say they can add it to my other 2 cars, with social and commuting use for me and wife, with European breakdown cover for £260! But that's not on an agreed value basis - but surely they would still have to pay out a fair amount if totalled? Any thoughts on classic Vs regular car insurance here? I kind of assumed Admiral would just not cover it as such an old car - or would be really expensive. thanks Ken

Ha...I just sold my Porsche (2001 Boxster S) and now have a 420D convertible (with remap). The Boxster was a beautiful car and very energetic but my body is getting old and decrepit and falling out onto the pavement to get out was a pathetic display ! Anyhow, we now have a cockapoo and she has her own back seat now !! Wish I had bought a 435D in hindsight but lets see what a year or so in this girl will decide !!! PS Good luck with your new Porsche !!!

Hello I have a problem with me E38 1998 which has failed the mot which is due to the ABS light not illuminating. I’ve just sent the cluster off to see if any problems with that and nothing. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks Dan

Morning Jay Technically there isnt a down pipe there should be a diesel particulate filter (DPF) if there is a single downpipe then it will be aftermarket. DPF's are normally really tough the bit that blows is the flexible pipe at the bottom BMW call it a Decoupling element and still sell them as will a number of aftermaket exhaust suppliers like Bosal Try looking at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box then check the exhaust section. Once you have the part numbers just use the Internet to find the best deal or as Stu says Quarry have always been helpful Dave

1997 Z3 Runs for a few miles then cuts out
Bimmer Owners Club replied to Brian 23's topic in BMW Z3 & Z4 Series Forum
How have you got on with diagnosing the fault? Had to do a running repair on my Z3 in the week as the original intake trunking had perished and was drawing unregulated air through the hole and the car ran incredibly rough - replaced the part with the new one that I had in the boot for years and runs great now Another thing worth trying when its running on song is using super-unleaded - has made the world of difference the flat spot at around 2000rpm which has disappeared since using the higher octane (and lower ethanol) fuel -

Well….. the drop top pug is getting kicked out soon… I went on eBay and made a cheeky bid. off to pick up a nice 4.5 v8 Porsche cayenne up on Saturday !! ironically I won it while I was registering my wife on a speed awareness course 🙄 let’s see how many times the X5 is going to have a hissy fit when this one turns up. 😂
