  2. BMW enters an exciting new era of driving pleasure with its second Neue Klasse model, the new BMW i3. Since its unveiling in March, the trailblazing all-electric saloon has already generated strong customer demand and, from today, customers have an early opportunity to place an order with the new BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Customer, Brands, Sales, said: “The new BMW i3 is a groundbreaking car for us. As a fully electric model, it will be competing in a high-volume segment and is therefore extremely significant for the BMW Group. At the same time, we can already tell from the high level of interest in this model that it will be very well received by our customers. The start of orders on 18 June in First Edition form – ahead of the official market launch – is an important next step here.” Building on the BMW i3 50 xDrive’s comprehensive standard specification, the First Edition adds further standard-fit equipment. Based on the M Sport model, it includes M Sport exterior and interior design elements alongside features such as BMW Iconic Glow, the BMW 3D Head-Up Display and AC Charging Professional – increasing the AC charging rate from 11 kW to 22 kW. The BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition is available to order now, priced from £57,905 OTR. At its official market launch in autumn 2026, the BMW i3 50 xDrive (WLTP, combined [EnVKV]: energy consumption 16.1 – 13.4 kWh/62 miles; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/mile; CO₂ class A) will be priced from £53,005 OTR, offering a single-charge range of up to 567 miles1 (WLTP). Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW, explains: “The BMW 3 Series has been an icon of our brand for seven generations and therefore more than five decades. It encapsulates pure driving pleasure, innovation and timeless design. With the Neue Klasse and its technology clusters, we are literally skipping a vehicle generation. This is the DNA of our sporting saloon in a completely new vehicle concept as we write the next chapter in the BMW 3 Series success story". The BMW i3 exemplifies the new BMW design language: focused on the essentials in a modern, unmistakable style. With its 2.5-box design, the new BMW i3 offers a modern take on hallmark BMW saloon proportions and is immediately recognisable as a BMW 3 Series. Its silhouette is characterised by a long wheelbase, glasshouse set well back and short overhangs. The BMW-typical four-eyed face receives a modern interpretation, while the Neue Klasse design language guides a fresh front end. The BMW kidney grille and twin headlights merge as an innovative light signature into a single stylistic piece. The horizontal rear lights feature an L-shaped design in a new, abstract form which extends far into the shoulder area. Prominently flared wheel arches amplify the model’s broad, sporty stance. Taking BMW’s hallmark driver focus to a new level. Inside, the new BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X offers a unique display and operating system optimised around the driver. At its heart is the BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects content across the entire width of the lower area of the windscreen. The multimodal operating logic of BMW Panoramic iDrive combines touch, haptic and voice-based interactions. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant plays a key role, enabling numerous vehicle functions, as well as navigation and media content, to be controlled using natural language. The introduction of large language model technology (LLM, Alexa+) results in a dialogue-based verbal interaction, enabling intuitive and intelligent exchanges. BMW i3 takes a technological leap forward with sixth-generation electric drive system. The BMW i3 50 xDrive is powered by two electric motors, one on each axel, resulting in a combined system output of 469 hp, a peak torque of 645 Nm and 0-to-62-mph acceleration in 4.7 seconds. The First Edition features identical motors and performance figures. In the new BMW i3, highly efficient sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology teams with the Heart of Joy control computer and BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack to provide precise, effortless and assured driving characteristics. The Heart of Joy responds ten times faster than previous systems and reduces the number of control interventions necessary. Meanwhile, the Soft Stop function ensures the smoothest stopping action in the history of BMW, bringing the vehicle to a complete halt without any jerking or braking noises through precise control of the electric motors. The result is a whole new level of Sheer Driving Pleasure. The assisted driving experience also reaches new heights with BMW Symbiotic Drive, enabling a seamless interaction between assistance functions and the driver. With driver assistance activated, drivers can respond to situations in their own style by accelerating, steering or braking without deactivating the active assistance system. The optional Motorway Assistant enables hands-free assisted driving on the motorway at speeds of up to 81 mph (or the national speed limit) with automated lane changes after confirmation by eye signal2. Clear operating logic and displays ensure that assisted driving in the BMW i3 is always intuitive and controllable, enabling safe use of the highest SAE Level 2 automation. Long range, shorter charging times and bidirectional charging. The BMW i3 50 xDrive is powered by a high-voltage battery with new cylindrical cells and a net capacity of 108.7 kWh. The pack-to-open-body design of the battery housing turns it into a structural component. 800V technology significantly reduces charging times, enabling up to 263 miles of range to be added in just 10 minutes when connected to a 400 kW DC rapid charger3. Bidirectional charging is also supported. In First Edition specification, the BMW i3 50 xDrive offers a range of up to 563 miles1 (WLTP). The First Edition brings additional standard features inside the cabin. The interior of the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition includes additional standard features, such as electrically adjustable front multifunction seats, three-zone automatic climate control, sun protection glazing and steering wheel heating. The BMW 3D Head-Up Display is also standard fit. It is integrated above the BMW Panoramic Vision and projects selected content exclusively into the driver’s line of sight to enable precise spatial perception – especially useful when following navigation instructions. Further standard features include the Harman Kardon surround sound system, automatic tailgate operation and AC charging Professional – increasing the AC charging rate from 11 to 22 kW. Optional equipment available for the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition. Customers can add further personal touches to the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition via the options list, where rear seat heating, a panoramic glass sunroof with climate comfort glazing, and an electrically operated tow bar can be added. BMW Digital Premium can also be specified, bringing additional BMW Maps functionality, the Security Assistant and data for a wide range of entertainment. Additional driving and parking functions offered include Parking Assistant Plus, Parking Assistant Professional and the Motorway Assistant. A wide range of exterior colours, alloy wheels, interior designs and steering wheels. Six exterior paint finishes are available for the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition, including new M Le Castellet Blue. The alloy wheel portfolio comprises three aerodynamic options and a light-alloy variant – with sizes of 19- and 20-inches available. Inside, customers can choose from Contemporary and BMW M-themed interior designs in a variety of colours. A range of steering wheels offer further scope for customisation, including a white BMW Individual steering wheel (only in conjunction with the Contemporary interior design, Bicolour Digital White). All values are provisional. Available in most European countries, USA and Canada by the end of 2026. The added range after ten minutes of high-power charging was determined in accordance with ISO12906 in the WLTP cycle.

Morning Guy Way back (early 80's) when OBD diagnostics were basically simple code generators life was simple. All you needed was a code and some detective work. By the early 90's things had progressed where manufacturers developed their own programs that while allowing a standard OBD reader to access basic information kept many systems dark and unreadable. I started collecting Manufacturer software as I have always worked on my own cars in my home garage I have an old laptop that runs diagnostic software for Volvo, Mercedes Star, VW/Audi, BMW, Subaru and Toyota. My investment was driven by as diagnostics advanced Dealer costs shot up and they stopped repairing things and began replacing complete units ?? My local BMW Dealer labour rate is north of £200 ph the Mercedes Dealer makes that look like a bargain 😅 So after the Warranty period is over all my servicing is DIY plus there are very few repairs I have found that cant be done at home. Both Mercedes Star and BMW ISTA/INPA include Workshop Information with pictures which is a great help Hope your new software works for you let us know how you get on Dave

Recently purchased a 520 D estate 2017 and the amber light is on and a message: continue journey and have problem checked used basic code reader and no error codes is there a OBD2 on the market that can pull this information out or is it main dealer. Also have a series 1 BMW and a 2015 Mercedes in the family so would need to be able to read these as well?

  16. Morning Rick Your transmission is made by ZF a check of their website should let you know what their recommended service intervals are from memory 60k to 100k dependent on use and climate. I have read that you can also get a shift control service kit Don't buy cheap get ZF stuff check out www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it should bring up your model then check the Gearbox section get the part numbers you need the use the Internet for best prices Good luck Dave

  19. Morning Juli Welcome to the Forum Read as much as you can on all Forums just bear in mind most forums will highlight issues so don't just look at the number but look for specific Engine or Gearbox issues Good Luck with the hunt Dave
  20. Why are the brake lines being replaced are the leaking ? or is it just that you want them changed ? BMW are not alone in fitting brake lines to a bare shell then putting huge assemblies like the rear subframe and axel in place to cover them up. My wife's car is a 3.0 Subaru Outback with a Perrin engine upgrade (400whp) she loves it and it has been a brilliant car 15 MOT's and it had it's first advisory this year. However she reported a soft pedal last year when I investigated I found signs of brake fluid leaking on the nearside rear. Now Subaru run the brake lines inside the car so they are protected brilliant, until they need to exit to reach the rear wheels they chose to do that in a place where they then mount the fuel tank ?? To drop the tank you first have to drop the Rear subframe (sound familiar) Cost at a dealer would be more than the car is worth (and she does love her car) so my solution run new brake lines inside the car into the boot area near the spare wheel well drill two holes for grommets and feed the new lines down and connect to the existing flexy pipes. A days head scratching and planning £30 worth of materials and brake fluid job done So a BMW dealer will have Labour rates north of £200 per hour so dropping the rear subframe will probably be 2 days work possibly with 2 techs for safety easy to see where the money goes. Personally I would run new lines in copper (no rust issues) and clip them to the rear subframe cut out the existing lines apart from where they are above the subframe. Same with parts Febi, Mehyle Bosch and many others are OEM parts suppliers to BMW who like all other Car manufacturers tend to make Bodies and Engines all the other thousands of parts are brought in. Buy those parts from BMW and you will find their markup is often 400% that's life. Maintaining our Beemers i top condition particularly the older models would become uneconomical very quickly if using dealers Dave
  21. Morning Rick Welcome to the Forum By the description you give it would seem that the gearbox is ready for a full service and while it's out new clutch The poor old Gearbox is often the most abused part of the car Engine gets regular oil and filter changes while the gearbox is often never touched until it breaks Good Luck Dave

  23. Potential new X1 owner here looking for any possible negative feedback I currently own an X3 but with all needed repairs suggested I feel it is better to go with a new vehicle. As I am reluctant to get into a monthly car payment I am considering buying a less expensive model and I am seriously considering the X1. Does anyone have any moderately negative experiences with the X1? Thanks!

  25. Hi All hope your well So he we go I have a Bmw 1 series I currently having some issues with first gear it will goes in when stationary. The min I try to pull forward it jumps out of gear. So my thought was it was the slave cylinder how ever I went to my local parts store and he questioned if it was that . Which then made we question it. the only other systems are the clutch pedal doesn't always retract to high and there is some build near the gear rode "sorry no it's not call that" but unsure what its called everything works fine apart from that no noise from gear box . I have read on the internet that it could just need a fuild change is this a possibility or I am looking something more expensive ? please help I am going mad
  26. Got my x6 sent into bmw for new rear brake lines fitted. £ 90 for the lines and was 2 hrs labour to fit. Car went into the workshop, and I got a call. Sorry, but it’s gonna be £2800 to fit as whole back axle has gotta come out! Plus vat!!! 3k for 2 piddly lines. This is extortion, and local specialists are quoting similar if not more. Other than scrap the car with over 4k worth of brand new parts on, what can I do?

  35. Hi Stu, thank you for jumping in on this.. I've just had another mechanic come out who took the starter off and confirmed its still working. I also got the RAC out as I forgot I had a policy with them through my insurance. He tried the jump start, , attempted to turn the crank from underneath and believes its seized.. I've mentioned the alternator point back to the mechanic for his thoughts as I agree.. The engine warning light came on, the engine stopped and it coasted to a stop and never started again... There was no noise and the gear selector went into neutral.. As I type this, is that a fail safe designed within the car to stop the wheel locking up when the engine seized? Finally, if it is gone , it needs to go as I am not prepared to spend another penny on it.. Any enthusiasts out there who want to take it on?
  36. Morning Dave, Thank you for your very helpful reply. I do not have runflats, as I think they are the Devils work. I have put a my details into realoem, but there are so many options it is confusing. I have tried Autodoc and found some Eibach springs but they seem to be for both standard and Msport, can not see how that works. I really want the softest option available as I just need the car for local journeys, as the roads where I live are like the Somme I am thinking of putting 225/55/16 wheels and tyres on as well. Cheers, Brian
  37. Morning Brian Welcome to the Forum After 10 years the suspension is probably due a refresh, my own experience is often the shocks harden and so your getting little bump or rebound. Start at www.realoem.com if you are not aware it is an online BMW parts list. Put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model then search the front and rear axel sections for part numbers. You will see part numbers for M sport and standard springs then search the internet for deals. Front suspension is normally a strut assembly so changing springs and shocks will require a set of spring compressors or often a changing a complete unit is as cheap and less work. Also consider tyres are you still on run flat tyres they can contribute to a hard ride Good Luck Dave

  39. I recently bought a 2015 F33 420i, it is fitted with Msport suspension. Suffering from serious back problems I find the suspension far to firm, if not crashy. I really like the car, is it possible to swop out the Msport suspension and fit standard springs and shocks. If so what is involved and what set up should I go for.
