  1. Today
  2. Good morning! My widebodied Z3 is on a W plate (Feb 2000) and it has the 2.0 straight 6 cylinder engine. As far as I know the 4 cylinder was fitted to some of the widebody models (I saw one in a garage recently) but not sure why you would want to go with the 4 cylinder over the 6 cylinder as they are worlds apart and the 6 cylinder will go on forever with makes for a much more exciting drive. Plenty of Z3's on the market at the moment and they are certainly increasing in value so pick one up soon before the prices get out of hand. I would recommend you look very thoroughly at the metalwork as rust is an issue with some, but by the time the widebody Z3 came in, they seem to have sorted a lot of issues. Let us know how you get on with acquiring one and if you need any further info then just let us know.
  3. Morning Phil First thought "is it a genuine wide body or an aftermarket kit that's been fitted" I would check one of the Vin Decoder websites using the Vin number to see what the original build sheet tells you. As it may be a rare customer special order One of our Z car owners may have more thoughts Dave
  4. Morning Frank BMW do like to charge stupid prices🤣 in the UK you can buy a new one with warranty for around £150. 5 minutes to change a used one from £20 to £50 and as said I have not seen a failed one since 2001 (my first X5) Just remember BMW do not make these parts they buy them in. BMW Air suspension is a fairly simple system 2 Fuses a Relay a Control Module a Compressor 2 Ride Height sensors and 2 Air Springs The most common faults are leaks ? Leaking Air Bags. The next is Compressor failure the leak causes the compressor to run far to long and it wears out and can't produce enough pressure to lift a heavy car. Your car is 12 years old so the suspension at an age where it could do with a refresh whether its springs or air. You need to know what the problem is. Is it Suspension going down and not inflating ? Is it compressor not running ? Is the suspension lopsided ? A Scan with BMW capable software would tell you/us more My X5 is 2009 vintage I have just fitted a new compressor as the original was getting tired (over running) £140, with 5 year warranty. Both air Springs £160 with 10 year warranty whole job took me 5 hours on a Saturday morning I don't have a lift so all work was carried out in my home garage. If you cant do the work yourself you will need the help of a mechanic having software that is BMW capable is the only requirement otherwise your guessing Dave

  6. Ta for that Dave ....mech seems think its where the problem is ut i hear what your saying about never having seen one fail ... rang around today and found out its main dealer only availability !!! so rang them ....never told me sit down before telling me price ........1440 euro PLUS vat ... so definitely have think again ...have seen converting to conventional shocks/springs(?) seems be what some owners do ..have least try get some idea what cost that might be to do that before decide on solution ... might be my age but really really annoying how they just made cars more and more 'complicated' for seemingly no reason other than their idea of progress....iv rallied/rallycrossed imps on and off for 50 years and not alone is their suspension all round very simple/ effective and inexpensive ...but even i can change any/all of it in few hours ...sorry rant over ... Thanking you again
  7. Hi I am after some help. I am looking to buy a z3 and have found one i like but it's a wide body with a 1.9 engine on a w plate? I thought all the wide body was 2.8? Can anyone shed any light on this please.
  8. Let me have a wild guess 🤣🤣 Dave
  9. Hi Stephen Have you tried the BMW Specialist Recyclers like Quarry Motors ? Or Google the Register of BMW Dismantlers and try a few Dave
  10. Morning Frank How are you so sure the car needs a suspension module? Not saying they can't fail but in a long time I haven't seen one that has. Just take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then search rear axel for the part you want or take out the one you have and take the part number from there. Once you have the part number Google for the best price and supply. Your choices are Second User or New Dave

  15. I fully agree! I've had a set of winter wheels for the golf since I bought it in 2012, purely becasue I wanted a proper spare wheel. 4 x alloys with winter tyres (same size as summer wheels/tyres) and wheel bags £800 (on offer) from VW a spare alloy with tyres (to match what was already on there) £800, so what do you think I went for?
  16. Seems my 520 estate ,2013, rear suspension needs a new module ...wondering where best i might get this ...also what sort of cost should be as in as much as i can see prices vary a lot ? ta again in advance
  17. Thanks so much Dave I have car booked in tomorrow with BMW so will feedback what they say. Many thanks Gary
  18. Probably the best way to handle it. I do like the idea keeping a car totally stock.
  19. Morning Gary Welcome to the Forum At 17k I would suspect that the Bushes are OK but check that the Upper Control Arms are torqued correctly The supplying garage should take care of that with no argument even if it means new upper arms, as these are faults that were are present at sale. Even if it is outside their 60day warranty the sale of goods act is on your side as clearly the car in its current condition isn't suitable for purpose Push Good Luck Dave
  20. Hi and thanks for responding to my post. I have seen two Facebook posts and they are rather blatantly pointing out the problem. I have no idea whether BMW have actually commented let alone actioned the post but I kinda believe they have just looked the other way ! Re your 430i it may be a good idea to get her up on a ramp of your friendly garage and have a closer look or tap it (pun intended !). Let me know if you find out soon. Cheers
  21. Hi folks I purchased a 2025 BMW 220i with around 17k. Car was pulling slightly so had 4 wheel alignment carried out and in spec. While up on ramp it was noted that upper control arms on both sides front could move slightly back.and forth. Albeit minimal but can still move. Is this normal or do I have issues with ball joints or bushes or need new arms under 60 day warranty. Must say car is still pulling and there are no unusual noises
  22. You have a "list of jobs" too 🤣 I tried confusing her by starting at the bottom I thought if she saw ticks near the bottom 😅 Top tip it didn't work 🤣
  23. Morning Qualityking Welcome to the Forum More information would help Which style ? If I recall there are 7 or 8, 17" options. What colour ? Dave
  24. …. And yes… I put the weed killer down at the weekend and the driveway is on the list of jobs!
  25. Well… finally got round to taking a pic this morning before I left for work.. the lady next door just rolled up in her new purchase… she said she looked at a Porsche, but as I beat her to it she went for another option! 🙄🙄🙄…
  26. Hi. If you have any issues with insurance at all for a change of tyres then please feel free to drop me a line. Regards, Dan.
  27. Morning Richard If it is an option offered by the Manufacturer it isn't a Modification would be my argument My E70 runs non-run flat tyres due originally to availability the car was originally offered with either run flat and Non Run flat I also have a set of Winter wheels and tyres. Dave
