AAJS started following BMW 125i E88 - Passenger Mirror Fault (RHD)
-
Hi all, During some fault diagnosing, I've come across a fault (009CC4) on the passenger mirror side (UK). It apparently has to do with some comms being disturbed. I've tried to clear the fault but it keeps returning. I'm wondering if the fix is to replace the glass or to somehow check if there is power at the connectors that plug into the glass. Not sure how to check if there is power going into the glass, so my first reaction would be just to replace the glass, but then again without knowing the cause it may not solve the problem. If anyone has come across the cause and fix for this then I'd appreciate some help please. Thanks

LED adaptive headlight / high beam failure warning
Greydog replied to Karlos70's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Karl If you have a seized level sensor arm either change it or lubricate it as it really could be your issue. Fix faults first other wise trying to reset Fault Codes is a waste of time as they will just return. As I understand it each Headlamp has 3 modules (1) a main Headlamp module (2) a Headlamp Control Module (3) a Cornering Module make sure the plugs are clean unplug them a spray with Contact Cleaner and reconnect making sure they are seated correctly Then try disconnecting the battery to clear faults Dave -

Evening, I'll be disconnecting the battery in the morning and will report back. Flashing the high beam a dozen times clears the error. Also the last vehicle check report shows rear headlamp levelling sensor rod seized. Maybe a cause. I'll check the directory if battery disconnection doesn't do the trick. Cheers Karl

LED adaptive headlight / high beam failure warning
G1000 replied to Karlos70's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
I have the same issue on my 340i (17 plate). It first started last winter occasionally. No problems during the summer, but now it is every time it rains or has rained, particularly if cold and dark. If I use high beam it works fine, but then I may start to get adaptive headlight failure warning (again as far as I can see the adaptive headlights still work). Would love to know if disconnecting the battery works. I figured a loose connection or that a rodent keeping itself warm in my engine bay has had one nibble too many on one of the wires. Cheers Gareth -
LED adaptive headlight / high beam failure warning

Hi Karl As the lights are working and from your description correctly it could be a plug or pin that's a little gungy or possibly a software glitch There is a register of BMW Specialists check it for ones near you I would check them out and get a proper diagnostic scan done as warnings are often a symptom not the cause. The Battery disconnect is actually something that Dealers do to clear faults so may work. Dave -

My old company motto was , nothing is impossible, it just costs a lot more. im sure with a few tweaks you could do what you feel….. I have seen a 27litre tank engine in a rover p1 before 🫡

Hi Dave, Many thanks for your quick reply. I've checked and cleaned the camera and will disconnect the battery tomorrow as suggested. The high beam assist seems to work as it should turning on and off, although it does turn high beam on in what I would consider quite well lit areas. High beams light the road as you'd expect. Just the 2 warnings of left high beam failure and adaptive failure. Main dealer didn't want to know when under warranty. Independent said LED failure - we can get you a new unit for £2k. Not convinced as it seems to work despite the warnings. Will get a 2nd opinion. Best regards Karl

Hi Vic If you cant find the Part number on the Telematic unit in your car check www.realoem.com if you haven't used it before put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model or up to 2019 it will then search the sections for what you need. Your looking for the Part Number (your car or earlier when you have the part number double click it annd you should get a list of alternates and other models it was used on. Some of the BMW specialist Dismantlers like Quarry Motors would be a good starting point Good Luck Dave -
Oh ok so it might be a easy ISH conversion then as they do the 2ltr turbo anyway cheers for info again @Greydog👍 Yes very very true that power equals money money equals power, il keep the old 1.6 going for a wee bit longer and dive into pricing a 2ltr turbo conversion as i really am falling in love with this 1 series it's basic but alot of fun its just missing the exra umph as they say but I know what people will say "why buy a 1.6 in the first place" it was cheap and I need a car now so it ticked all the boxes for what I need now play time will come 😁 even thinking of selling up me 2 bikes and all the spares I've collected over 20 plus years and pour it into this and make it what I want as can't take the whole family out on a bike

As BMW themselves produced a 116i 2.0ltr version parts shouldn't be to hard to track down use realoem get a list and see if finacially it's viable There is always the old syaing by Carol Shelby when a guy asked him how fast a Shelby Cobra was, His answer, "speed costs money son how fast can you afford to go" Remember back in the 70's Brabham Racing were using BMW 1.5 ltr engines in their F1 cars two turbos (1 big and 1 very big) 900/1000hp in race trim 1200hp for qualifying. The engines were standard blocks selected customers ran them on the road to get heat cycles into the blocks. Customer engines were swapped and the blocks went to Brabham.

Hi Greydog Can you recommend a source for a telematic unit. The electrician I used is due to return on Monday and I'll share the above with him. Thanks for your help Vic -
Morning Harry Welcome to the Forum Not sure what your asking here ? Does your car have front and rear cameras fitted ? If so are the OEM ? If they are then the rear camera should function as a reverse camera (as far as I am aware). In settings you should be able to select views. If you have front and rear cameras and they are not OEM that would explain things. Reverse Cameras where an option I take it you have parking sensors. If your car was ordered with just PDC then you should have a Graphic and tone warning. To upgrade to cameras will need an ECU to handle the video signal Dave

Morning Vic Try taking the battery out and cleaning the contacts in the Telematic unit with a good electrical contact cleaner first. While your in there get the part number from the Telmatic unit and check online for second user ones also worth contacting some of the repair specialists out there if they can be checked and repaired Good Luck Dave -

LED adaptive headlight / high beam failure warning
Greydog replied to Karlos70's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Karl Welcome to the Forum First try the simple things make sure nothing is obscuring the camera on the back of the rearview mirror and it's lens is clean, next disconnect the battery for at least 20mins that should reset everything. If your still getting the fault a Diagnostic Scan is the way forward you need someone with a BMW capable system Main Dealer is obvious but will be the dearest so check BMW Specialists near you and good Independent Garages. The diagnostic should identify where the fault is the next trick is fixing it. Good Luck Dave -
Morning Dave and X5smw I think i have came out ok on this oil leak done a service on it and seen its leaking from the valve cover gasket into Number 3 sparkplug hole, I'm wondering @X5smwwould you know what would fit as i am thinking 2L turbo or somthing very similar how much of a ball ache would it be to fit a bigger lump? Engine mounts, ECU, cooling system, exhaust? Oh and engine haha would i need anything els or pretty much that's it for a bigger cc conversion as I have fell in love with this £850 bargain haha

It is a wonder to me why BMW do not fit reverse camera to the X1 (F48). After all, they are a business to make profit. So why not fit reverse cameras and make a profit (like they fit front and rear cameras) I ask. Any thoughts? Do you get your car serviced and updated at the authorised dealer. If you do I would be interested to know if you had any issues?

Hi all, My 2018 435d is coming up with high beam failure / adaptive LED failure warnings but the high beam seems fine. I don't know how to check the adaptive function but visual inspection of the high beam shows it is working and it's passed 2 x MOT's. On the last service I was told one of the LED's had failed = £2k for a new unit. I might be clutching at straws but with high beam working that's making me think (hope) the warning might be bogus? Is it likely to be a new lamp unit needed or is there something else to check first? All advice appreciated.

Tried a new battery which seemed to fix the problem but after doing about 70 pls the message returned. Now wondering if the telematics unit is actually the cause of the warning message. -
X1 rear inner light bottom led not working
Greydog replied to Robbo65's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Karl Never used Ali Express but from what I read (some time ago) most sellers are from China so what protection you have if a product is faulty I have no idea, same applies to quality. If things are really cheap there is normally a reason. When I swapped mine I did cut open the unit (Dremel Job) and found the small PCB board to be water damaged and stained no idea or indication how water got in. As a precaution I put a smear of clear silicon sealer around both mine (replacement and existing) where the coloured plastic is bonded to the plastic housing then fitted new water seals when putting them back. If you can find away to repair it could be an opportunity finding the PCB and the LED's will be the trick Dave , -
Morning Mr Kris, welcome to the forum. if the engine turns out to be a bit sick, it’s a good excuse to go and see quarry motors and pick an engine, make it fit and have fun…. If you’re going to spend money fixing an engine, get a bigger, running one and spend the time shoehorning it in… the wife won’t know what you are doing and you can use the excuse you are saving money by fixing the old one! enjoy! 😉

Morning Karl Before Android Auto would work I had to connect by a wired connection through the Aux port after that it connects wirelessly. I have to say I have never tried Spotify or music streaming, either CD or iPod on the Aux connection for me OLD BLOKE 😁 Dave
-
Morning Kris You need to do some tests to check it could be any or all of those Could be a clogged EGR system (smoke after tickover for a while) Valve stem seals smoke on over run, Piston rings a compression test needed Dave

X1 rear inner light bottom led not working
Robbo65 replied to Robbo65's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Maybe there is a business opportunity? Is this a common fault? At less than 5 years old you'd expect the led's to last. Ali express has new ones at 57quid so may get one and see how easy the factory fitted comes apart. Does anyone have any feedback on Ali express?
