  2. Hi Dave It’s original BM Key Is there a topic I could check ?
  3. Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum Where did the key come from ? If it is an Internet special it could get difficult Stu on hear has done it but not sure what program he used. If it is from BMW then there are several "How Too's" online Dave
  4. Morning Nick Looks like you have a transmission fault😁 either the Gearbox is in Limp mode or it won't select gears. The Diagnostics (looks like ISTA) are telling you where the issues are, work through them and clear them one by one, often faults are related clear one and others disappear. The main highlighted fault state is No Communication with the Gearbox Control Unit. I would start with the Gearbox fuses check them all, next the wiring loom (continuity) and the gearbox connector, unplug it and check and clean all the pins (good electrical contact cleaner) Next are there any signs of leaks from the connector plug seals check the fluid level. Note: Your box is I believe GM so make sure if topping up you have the correct fluids. Better to carryout a full service if not already done. I have read that some early GM boxes had Mechatronic issues the needed a replacement unit (not cheap) so fingers crossed. Dave

  11. Get the correct silicone pad or it will give problems again. Either a Dealer or my solution Auto Windscreens who also had some wipes to clean the screen Dave
  12. Thanks for the comments guys. I removed the case around the sensor. I was unable to release the plug as it felt like it would break. With the green light on the stalk and while it was raining i pressed the actual sensor against the screen and blow me it worked, then it stopped when i released the pressure. So to me it may need removing so that i can apply a new pad to secure it to the screen. that will be my next move

  14. Morning Barry Welcome to the Forum At a guess either the lamp (bulb) is incorrect or the connector is not connected correctly. Back track very carefully over what has been done. If that doesn't clear it then a diagnostic needs to be carried out Dave

  20. Hi Joe I change Vac lines and breather hoses as a service item on our cars 2 X5's and Wife's Subaru Outback all are serviced annually to manufacturers standards by myself (son says I have OCD 🤣) any rubber hoses showing signs of degrading are changed as a matter of course so I wouldn't worry as long as its changed. Oil and rubber are not best friends and as your potential purchase is around 7 years old it is quite likely near end of service. Subaru is a 2004 3.0 has 164k on the clock and runs like a Swiss watch BMW E53 4.6is 137k like the Subaru runs really well BMW E70 3.0d 138k as the other two. Dave

Hi Grey dog Dave was super helpfull he sure knows his stuff thanks again Dave
  25. Hi Dave, Thank you so much for the reply. I have checked the following. Almost got new brake pads (all almost 12mm thickness), brake fluid next service is due on after 18000 miles, disc (22, 23 mm front and 18,19 mm for rear), tyres have got 6mm thread, 12 v battery has 90% capacity, not a category vehicle, no rusting is visible, not a category vehicle and have done major service like engine oil, micro-filter, air cleaner element, fuel filter on this January. I know I have to find a small amount for clutch replacement within in 80 to 100k. I have checked the engine bay. There no other leaks appear to me than this sweating from breather hose ( there was a crack on the breather hose). My question is that breather hose damage can be considered as a normal cause due to age. Or it can be a alarming situation for other leaks to start appearing.
  26. Morning David Worth a search for any acoustic specialists who may help, for what it is worth my E70 was in for an EGR recall last year and I was given an Electric X1 as a courtesy car, a nice car very quiet apart from tyre/road noise which was a surprise to me having driven a Tesla 3 which had very little I did comment to the Dealer Good Luck with finding a solution Dave
  27. Morning Willy Welcome to the Forum As the breather forms part of the emission control it should be changed. Other than that if the cars History is good and general condition looks to match 70k wear pedal rubbers, seats, tyres etc then you have a decision to make without seeing the car it is virtually impossible for us to give an opinion Good Luck Dave

  29. Hi, I need an advise in buying 320D. I am planning to buy a 3 series 2018 320D M sport model 77k miles in total. Everything looks good. Has got all service history. Only issue is that when I checked the front side, I can see that crankcase breather pipe is damaged which cause some oil leaks appearing on the pipe. If the dealer say they will replace that, would I consider buying that car. Or this is a starting of all problems. And walk away without buying. Is this leak is a common issue ?. Please advise.

  31. Hi Tino Changing the FRM should be easy the only issue is that's where BMW store Mileage information (there and the instrument cluster) so you may trigger a tamper dot against the mileage. Easy to correct. Seems you have eliminated the FRM so onto the JBE if you can find one with the same Part number it should be straight forward with no programming Keep going Matey Dave

  33. Thank you Greydog. All the bearings you mention have been checked. I have now driven two other cars which have the same noise so have concluded it’s a characteristic of the model Thus I am thinking of sound proofing- especially the wheel arches. Any comment? Thanks David
  34. Hi Dave, Not a BMW garage. I have found a local gearbox specialist garage. Thank you so much for the information, I will certainly be showing them this. I will let you know how I get on ☺️
  35. Morning Christine Is the garage a BMW Specialist or the Garage that sold the car ? I don't know what tests they carried out leaving the battery disconnected is a BMW Dealer trick to clear codes Talked to a friend who works for BMW in the US apparently they saw a number of these faults which requires a Gearbox Software reset or upgrade Dealers can do it using ISTA-P or a ZF Specialist is the next step. Here is what he sent me 240211.pdf Dave
  36. Update - the FRM is not the issue, swapped in a perfectly good FRM from an LCI 320i model that I could connect a scan tool to and still no connection to any modules in the vehicle. I'm going to try swapping the JBE next as I've heard those also cause OBD communication issues.
  37. Hi all recently bought a x2 m with 20inch alloys on run flats. Road noise seems excessive. Was wondering if I change to normal tyres would be better or should I look to swapping alloys for 18 inch would be better ? Thanks
  38. Hi Dave, No luck at the garage 😔 They checked all the connections, all ok. They disconnected the battery, which was left overnight, ran a diagnostic test again this morning and the same error code came up. They still say I need to take it to a gearbox specialist. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated ☺️
  39. Thanks so much for your help and advice.I really appreciate it. I will have a look at theses fuses.
