  2. Hi Guys Big believer in owners clubs, I've just bought a 69 reg 240i with only 27K from Evans Halshaw, I am loving it but need to sort out missing service history and get a proper warranty in place. I'm retired and have had various nice cars, Boxster, Golf R, Mazda MPS, but just decided I wanted a last hurrah while I'm still fit! So far I am loving this car, it is so quick and smooth and apart from a tiny ding in boot, I can't see a mark on it. Please forgive me if I ask lots of stupid questions. Dave
  3. My car exhibits a lumpy performance at steady lower speed (around 40 mph and 1000 rpm) anybody had this?
  4. Hi Dave thanks for the reply, it’s dawned on me the dash temp gauge is oil temp so I need to locate that sensor! the fan visible behind the rad does turn,I saw it working after I warmed it up but I haven’t heard the electric fan cut in. I have bought a replacement thermostat to fit but haven’t as yet i also found a video showing how to test the auxiliary electric water pump by holding the throttle down … mine appears to make noise but nothing come back into the header …. also I can’t seem to get the water temp displayed on the dash using the secret menu hack it’s like the unlock code isnt accepted when I select option 7 it just goes back to displaying outside temp. my vacuum pump is also a bit noisy ( sounds a bit like a wheel from a children’s bike stabiliser) other than that noise the engine sounds perfect and the oil is clear of any sludge.. 5. Morning Leena Welcome to the Forum Have you talked to BMW UK ? Certainly if the car has gone through 2 services at a BMW Dealer and they didn't fix the issue !! I would also contact Rogue Traders Dave

  7. Hi Bob, Just make sure you check out the specs. If it is a 1.5l engine it's probably a MHEV, in which case no room underfloor for a spare wheel. Secondly, if that is the case it's built on the same platform as my 220i Active tourer which has a quoted 0-62mph of 8.2s. That's a bit misleading as I think that time is achieved by using the 'Boost' function, where the energy stored in the battery is suddenly dumped into the drive train for a 'Launch' effect. I don't find my 220i to be slow. It picks up quickly from 50 to 70(and plus) on the motorway if required. Sure it's not going to be up there with cars that have 200hp or more. But then if you're thinking of an X1 you are obviously more interested in practical luggage carrying than speed. Remember most of the average 'bloggsmobiles' have a 0-62mph time of 10s+. I think the X1 with the 1.5l engine has a time of 8.3s, and a top speed of 138mph so whilst not high performance it's no sluggard. On another note, just try to keep the cost, when new, below that £40k threshold, after which annual car tax rises to £590 per annum for the first 5 years for the second licence. In the end, only a test drive will tell you if it suits you. Good luck

  9. Hi Paul Well 1 down main prop shaft and centre bearing to check next also diff mounting bush in case the diff is moving under load. The air suspension takes up any slack in bushes which makes finding worn stuff harder Great teachers these cars 🤣 like they say every days a school day Good luck Dave
  10. Morning Ian In realoem double click the part number and it should show a list of all models that it was used in/on It will also show any alternate part numbers Fingers crossed Dave
  11. Morning Jack Welcome to the Forum Not good news and although you aren't seeing visible signs, low oil pressure will over time start to reduce oil feed to probably the upper parts of the engine. As your garage found evidence of chain guide wear/brake up it needs investigation. I would start with simple stuff Check/change the Oil Pressure switch just in case it is that simple. The next bit involves dropping the sump to check the Oil Pick up pipe (I have seen one with a split "O" ring seal that gave similar symptoms to yours (flickering oi light at tick over) If the sump is off clean it out and I would change the oil pump tensioner and guide. Hope this is helpful Dave
  12. Morning Sam Welcome to the Forum From what I have read the warranty extension on the part is because replacement parts deliveries are so restricted, delayed. I guess BMW have to consider manufacture of cars as well as recall/replacement of faulted parts All a bit of a mess really and poor communication doesn't improve things maybe Angela Ripon's show can help Good Luck Dave
  13. Morning Connah If they are listed in www.realoem.com then you should be able to get them. If not then it is a search of the after market I don't remember seeing them separate (doesn't mean they are not out there) Good Hunting Dave

  15. I couldn't agree more just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Laptops are a prime example, give me than two sodding ports!! I don't live in that dreamland where everything works flawlessly over WiFi, I'm barely on dial up speeds here! Also what is with that dreadful piano black trim? Scratches the instant you look at it, and in my opinion I think it will date really badly. All new cars seem to have it, especally the EV's. Is it cheap to produce? Still trying to learn how to use the reverse camera😁... and failing!
  16. Hi, Yes. The BMW decoder worked well. I do indeed have a G21. I'm off to Dorset soon, so really looking forward to giving it a good run. 17. Morning Paul A wheel bearing normally protests under load when driving (groaning rumbling worse when cornering) CV Joint clicking sound, have you checked the condition of the CV Boots ? As an X5 pilot what condition are the tyres ? Have any or all been changed recently ? If the tyres (even 1) are out of spec Transfer case damage or diff damage can be caused (gives similar symptoms to those you seem to have Dave
  18. Morning Connah Welcome to the Forum Not sure what you are trying to achieve here ? If your OEM steering wheel has paddle shifts it should be fairly straight forward swap even though the replacement will probably be Aftermarket. Just make sure you can get support from the seller and they accept returns if it didn't fit If you don't have paddle shifts there is the small issue of how you can get the shift to work, it will involve loom extensions and programming at least. If you just want the competition look and are not worried about the operation then it becomes easier Good Luck Dave
  19. Morning Shawn Other than checking www.realoem.com and the Internet for help, it's not a job I have done but that would be my starting point. Perseverance, patience and practice may help as well 😅 plastic clips are easy to break if they are not spot on with alignment. I buy spares before starting any job that involves taking trim off, try trial fitting the clips off the car gives an idea of alignment and pressure needed I have used a little Washing up liquid as lubricant Good Luck Dave
  20. Yay glad it's sorted Donna just needed the right Tool on the job 🤣 (Been there a few times) Dave
  21. I'm selling my private personalised registration number plate P24 BMW. Ideal for any BMW but particularly the Z4 I think as the 24 looks just like Z4. The registration is on a retention certificate. It's being advertised on plates4less if you wish to buy it from them or if you prefer you can save some money and buy it direct from me for £1160

  23. I agree with Greydog. have a look around the MAF sensor. A split between this and the engine block will give erratic air mixture. also, check the battery voltage … my x5 sometimes starts rough idling and revving when it’s a bit low and throws a throttle position sensor fault at me.
  24. Hi Daniel Welcome to the Forum Your tapping noise could be a number of things from a sticking hydraulic lifter to a failing chain tensioner. What is the service history ? Extended service intervals can cause issues get the Chain tensioner checked/changed would be a starting point Dave
  25. Morning Damien Welcome to the Forum An internet search may give more information particularly the US sites Your BMW Dealer may not have seen it but that doesn't mean its not there. I have also read that the new cars when plugged into the Dealers system now have to be linked to BMW Gmbh They really don't make it easy do they, Technology is great until it stops 😅 Hope they can sort it with a software upgrade or something simple so you can enjoy your car again (sneaking around in silent mode🤣) Dave
  26. You are welcome Danny A BMW Dealer will not repair anything, they just change components at the Customers expense and no regard for cost I would use a BMW Vin Decoder site put the Vin number in and you should get the original build sheet Look at the list of Codes S676A is the basic Hi Fi system S688A is Harmon Kardon S6F1A is Bowers & Wilkins. Then you will know the starting point and will be able to make choices on how you move forward. BMW Designers are good at hiding components in places where they can get flooded, several models over the years have had Nav/Audio in the boot buried under the floor. Plus many of those models had a boot that could become a swimming pool if a seal was damaged or failed so moving your amp out of the danger zone makes sense. As you had the 40 amp fuses melted check the speakers as well as they may have been overloaded For service, help and knowledge there is a Register of BMW Specialists you should find more than one near you most are BMW trained they will have the equipment and Knowledge (one near me specialises in BMW/Porsche) yet is still less than half Dealer labour rates. One of those or an Audio Specialist would be on my list if I couldn't do the job myself. Good Luck Dave
  27. Absolutely correct my E53 runs 9.5 x 20 Front and 10.5 x 20 Rear and the E70 is as yo say 10 x 20 Front 11 x 20 Rear. Not really necessary on a 4x4 but BMW Designers like the looks 🤣🤣 ( and so do I) Hope you found what you needed Dave
