Oil for my (new) 2002 X5 3.0i
Hi Matt....welcome to the Forum I totally agree with Greydog on his judgement with the oil specs and the fact that your X5 has done a higher mileage I don't think I would go with the lighter grade...best to go with the 5w40 and you shouldn't need any additional additives if you get a quality oil (Mobil1, Shell, etc) Let us know how you get on with it all. Cheers, Trevor

BMW Z3 Cluster wiring to emu
Hi Phillip Exactly as Greydog has mentioned, carefully check the wiring, alternatively plug in the instrument cluster and wiggle the wiring leading up to it to see if that brings it to life, if so then you've found the break/short circuit. The instruments went out on my Z3 just the once so never bothered to find the fault. But also worth checking to see if there is water ingress anywhere under the dash or in the boot area. Keep us updated on what you find with this. Cheers Trevor

MPG
Hi Mick....welcome to the Forum I agree with Greydog....there are so many factors that affect mpg but I would certainly start with ensuring the car is serviced properly as that will make a huge difference. Cheers, Trevor

E60 restraint systems fault
Hi Andy...welcome to the Forum...and welcome back to BMW The unit could have gone faulty I suppose but it is just a bypass mechanism but should have some electronics in it (resistor/diode) For what they cost, I would be tempted to put another one in as this has clearly been a problem in the past for someone. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor

Fuel Pressure Regulator / Filter
Hi Michael...welcome to the Forum The only thing I can really find on the FPR is the following information and replacement filter assembly from somewhere in the States. We recommend preventative replacement of the fuel filter at 60-80,000 mile intervals. Replacing your fuel filter with this Genuine BMW fuel filter with built in fuel pressure regulator will help prevent the filter from becoming clogged. A clogged fuel filter can result in a variety of problems including stalling, cold start problems, and reduced performance. https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-19439-fuel-filter-with-pressure-regulator-e85-z4-e89-z4/ Have never removed/refitted one before but assume it is in the fuel tank and requires obvious H&S and common sense with flammable fumes, etc. Let us know if you find anything else out about the R&R of the filter Cheers Trevor

Will an M54b30 fit straight in??
I'm only guessing here as never done it myself but if the replacement engine is only a larger capacity then it would be done by bore or stroke and as long as you swap over as many ancillaries and components as possible then it should work okay Let us know what you discover Cheers Trevor

Newbie
Hi James...welcome to the Forum I think Greydog summed it up nicely....Warranty! as long as you have a comprehensive warranty then you should be okay. Good luck with your purchase Cheers Trevor

Whining
If you trickle water over the auxiliary drivebelts and see if the noise goes then its just dry belts causing the noise. If it doesn't go, then possible tensioner bearings, etc

Need help identifying wheels on my E36
Hi Phil Sorry, not sure what these wheels are but I wonder if they may be copies of an Alpine wheel as when you look at the centre where the wheel bolts are, there are no markings which you normally expect to see (rim sizes, BS number, etc). Hope you find a suitable replacement.
