  1. Sadly my BMW is going to be sold on Ebay shortly, Due to ill health I can no longer drive, Having restored her to her former glory and given me much satisfaction and with help from club members to complete all the work. I thank those who have given such good advice,I hope some of the advice I have given has helped also helped some. Old age comes to us all so time to hang the keys up. Thank you again for all the support. Steve
  2. Several upgrades on amazon if you want to save money,Some are legal some are not, your choice! Hope this helps
  3. First thing would be to go to any garage and have it put a diagnostic computer and go from there....I wonder why the last owner sold it......
  4. Both came from a local factor, Pretty easy to fix yourself if you can get loan of a ramp, I note you are in Cheshire, Loads of factors in your county, better if you buy the bits as garages add at least 10% or more.Good luck
  5. I have just replaced rear springs and shocks with mtec, no more bounce but ride very firm £156 quid with labour!! from my local garage
  6. Whoops, forgot that one Ian, May have hit the bracket hard.
  7. Have the exhaust checked, Remove and refit, ninety times out of a hundred its an exhaust mounting.
  8. Sounds like a mounting IE exhaust, gearbox ,engine. I had similar and it was the rear exhaust mounting and we took the whole thing off but never discovered what was amiss, when we put it back the noise went. Let us know when you find it for future reference.
  9. Have you tried the scrappy, I managed to get one in really good condition
  10. Hey, Get someone to follow you to see if steam is coming out of the exhuast pipe, a sure sign. There can be a minor hole in a gasket that gradually develops into some thing major. If you are sure its water in the oil there is a problem. I have had this happen twice and yes I agree it is very expensive because the head will have to be skimmed. Please let us know how you get on. Steve
  11. See how to with lots of photos I recently posted
  12. This is a strange one that lots of older BME's suffer, There are lots of reasons but the most common is the splines from the gearbox rusting up along with the clutch release bearing, clutch plates last a long time before they wear out. Try pumping the clutch pedal a dozen or so times before going out, it may make all the difference and may cure the problem. The actual clutch housing condensates causing the rust to form. Lastly the flywheel can distort on higher milage cars but rarely, a garage inspection is costly so hopefully pumping the pedal will work.
  13. Have you checked the engine management system i.e. the main chip?
  14. Hi , Matha, I seem to remember having the same problem on a previous car, after garage investigation they found a chip in the alarm system faulty, cost an hours labour and a new alarm, I will not frighten for with the cost. It also could be one of the sensors, these also are not cheap. It happened again so we ripped the ruddy thing out, The siren that is as nobody took any notice anyway. Sorry to be pessimistic but you will really need an electronics engineer to inspect.
  15. According to my local garage you may, Best tread to the front, Remember to check the tyre pressures......
  16. Have you checked the battery? Chipped keys rarely go wrong and very expensive to replace, Your local key replacement man or woman will require a minimum of £70, I know to my cost!
  17. out of interest i used to deliver all types of BMW on trade plates all over the country, When collecting FROM A FIELD I had to look at all the paperwork and believe me!, some had been sat there for over 18 months!! They then were taken too a main dealer and registered when sold, So could easily be two years old, SOLD as NEW which of course they were to the first owner......
  18. Could be the air flow meter is not working or blocking of the air filter itself, if you take the meter apart remember to replace the seal with a new one! Pipes can sometimes get blocked so check air is getting to the meter first. Hope this helps.
  19. I have to agree with Michael on every thing, I t happened to me on a car park kerb and it smashed the wheel bearing Which unbeknown was badly worn, Hope you solve it soon. Steve
  20. Dean, There could be a fault with the connector under the air bag its self, There is a spade connector which could be faulty, I cleaned mine and had it reset by the garage, No more light!
  21. your battery should be a 12v 65amp/h, size does not matter, Check leads, something is draining the power or your battery is not being charged enough. Hpoe this helps
  22. Hi Dean, what exactly did they say was wrong with the airbag?
  23. I had this and it was a sticky brake calliper that eventually got very hot, took out and regreased, end of problem, not saying it is you problem, but it might be?
