  1. Mr Beemer, HI. when i place the selector in R it selects exactly as it did before, if i'm on a flat surface that i wouldn't move on in N i start to move backwards, in fact getting faster up to 10mph if i let it, all without throttle. I dont hear the low power st fluid oil sound. Would opening the fill bolt and seeing it oil drips out (like my X5) be the preferred way of checking level? Thanks
  2. Yes its an Auto, The car works fine in all forward gears both in D and Tip Tronic mode. just to re-iterate, the car has SOME movement in reverse. it does not have "complete and permanent loss of movement to back up" which is the diagnose for the drum problem, some thing other sites have assumed. What is this pressure valve you talk about? Also any idea on my last question re the gear selector. With regard to taking it to a gearbox "professional" i assume these are the same ones i took my X5 to with a problem in D where it span up at 1000 revs and wouldn't change gear but worked perfectly in Tip tronic mode, Their advice "its knackered, need a replacement.. £2500" well i fixed it myself by jacking up the rear wheels and jacking it down, this cleared the problem and full functionality was restored.. problem was the rear air suspension compressor was broken and for some reason this affected the g/box, Don't ask me why. So my opinion of these professionals is somewhat jaded into thinking their opinions are financially biased Regards Rich
  3. Hi Guys, well i now have a 330ci Convertible, and all of a sudden when i put it in reverse gear the engine just revs up. It hasn't quite stopped working ie doesn't go at all, because on a level surface the car will slowly start rolling ever so slowly and if i feather the throttle a bit i can just about make it work. Apart from asking the obvious question "what the bl***** he** has happened" is the gear selector somehow electric ie the selector lever does not directly connect to the gearbox. Regards Rich
  4. Guys\Jack, sorted, before i saw your post Jack, (you were on the right lines) i had been reading posts on lots of other sites with similar problems. it all has something to do with a Hall Effect Sensor. it detects the door open and stops you from locking it, trouble is when you shut the door it still thinks its open so wont operate the lock/unlock , Fix is simple. remove the 3 connectors from the switch bank on the door for the windows and mirrors, and push them back in and out and in etc and hey presto, it will suddenly start working, then dont touch it and put it all back. Thanks Rich
  5. Hi Guys, I had to get into the inside of the drivers door, so removed all the trim as usual, put it back together and all seemed fine. However, when i went to lock the car, all the other door locked from the key except the drivers door, coincidence??, could i have knocked something off, is the a wire somewhere i should know about? Any help gratefully rec'd. Rich
  6. Hi, Hi, if you mean does the gear selector knob feel loose, then No, still feels the same. Rich
  7. Hi. Got a problem with my gears, Today, i had to stop and reverse quickly, so away i go when i suddenly felt a big "clunk", since then, when in "D" as soon as i pull away in first it slips out..if i stop and move it to "S" same thing. I can however move it to "+/-" (tiptronic) and pull away in first, change to second 3r d etc.. . What has also happened is it came up with "Trans Failsafe Prog", and seemed to restrict the gears to 3,4 and 5 gears only. Can someone tell me whats going on? Regards Rich
  8. Hi Guys, my Drivers door handle has been getting stiffer lately, and yesterday it finally stopped unlatching the lock, well after seeing this post http://www.xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php?&topic=417.0 i realised the carrier was broken, now my question is, until i get another one can i swap the carrier in the rear door for the drivers door? Thanks Rich
  9. Hi guys, Kept getting fog light bulb warnings so removed bulb and out came this...see picture. now my question is... what type of bulb is it?, is it a HID system? or what? if you zoom in to the middle bit of the bulb, there is a spherical part which is clouded.. does this indicate its blown? Any help appreciated
  10. i'm still looking at this guys, and i'll get back to you. Thx Rich
  11. Hi, I've got a 2001 4.4i X5 and underneath the BMW engine cover there is a pipe coming up into the top of the engine, see picture, it is not connected to anything, is this okay/normal/designed. Thanks Rich
  12. Hi Guys on my front bumper there are some flat covers next to the parking sensor. It looks like they are for some lights. Has anyone got any further information about them. pic attached Rich
  13. Hi, i have a 2001 X5 and when i bought it there was no load cover. Along the sides of the boot is a gap with ridges for what i assume is for the cover. I have since bought one (see picture) and it looks like the rods fit in the slot. Firstly, can anyone tell me how this cover fits and there are a couple of removable units towards the rear of the slots that seem removable. can anyone tell me how this all goes together. Regards Rich
  14. Hi, i'm after a Parking Sensor Cover for the inner pair at the rear, BMW part no is 511282683675 and a view can be seen here, item 11 Thx
  15. Simon, Hi, new here with an X5 myself, i know it sounds an obvious and possibly stupid answer, but when you get a single beep have you tried pressing the PDC button. Rich ps sorry about the double reply, and sorry about my picture, it wont stop from using my facebook one... Rich
