  1. Happy Birthday bholding1974!

  2. Just found one on eBay (Quarry Motors which have been really helpful in the past) for £50 so have bought and now awaiting it to be delivered. If the module controls much of the electrics I wonder if the parking sensors will start working again and the random airbag light will disappear too... :)
  3. So the saga continues... For those not familiar with the car, water leak since day one (after stupidly buying on eBay). Finally had that fixed (at £700) and now had the locking issue looked at, plugged in is says the body module/basic module/general module - apparently its goes by numerous names! Its the one that sits behind the glove box - not sure what else it controls but if it sorts the parking sensors too I'll be happy!!! Anyway, does anyone have one or know where I can get one? Been looking on eBay (again, for my sins) and 1st Choice Online but if there are any dealers here please let me know your price! Im skint after the last bill so the cheaper the better! Thanks Oh, and I have some nice M Sport Alloys going begging too, swap for smaller set (tyres getting too expensive!). :-)
  4. Hi All Having a few issues with the new purchase. E46 Touring.... This time with the locks. Sometimes when I go to unlock the car it will not unlock. The other day the car was getting hot (another problem which I am currently in the process of sorting) so stopped at a services. The central locking automatically locks when you drive and to unlock there is a button to press once ready to exit the car. Anyways, I press the button, there is a quiet click but the central locking does not unlock. Keys in/out of ignition, engine on and off and nothing - I have to just wait and fiddle before it unlocks. So after a quick toilet break I went back to the car and the bugger would not unlock. After a fewe minutes playing I finally get in (if I press the boot ulock button then that will unlock and open). Other times, generally I get in and out with no problem (this morning for example), there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Does anyone else have this problem? One idea I have is that it could be a temperature problem - when the engine gets too hot due to a cooling issue the electrics get hot, solders get hot and expand thus cross circuiting the system - I had a similar issue with my old Honda CRX - once warm the ingition would not fire it I stopped for petrol, I woul dhave to let her cool befroe starting up. Turned out the electrics needed resoldering as they expanded when warm. If anyone has an idea please let me know, it may save me a trip to the BMW garage! Thanks
  5. Didnt get to change the thermostat - before I had chance the coolant bottle decided to give out (could have been worse). I guess the hot water pressure got too much and blew the seal - had to wait until after Xmas to buy the parts though as had no money left for it but have them now and just waiting for an opportunity to get them fitted. I wonder if the leak will still be an issue?
  6. Hi All I have an E46 Touring, looking around at after market extras and keep seeing 'facelift' and was wondering what the differend is. Can anyone tell me the difference? Cheers
  7. Update So I have now owned the car for a few weeks and the past 10-14 days have not required any water - how strange. When I was adding water it never took too much to get to the correct level so am wondering if there were air locks etc which have now cleared. I am changing the thermostat at the weekend before going to Butlins (3 hr drive) as the rad is not getting hot (so the BMW techies at the garage said). Have not had any issues with over heating since the initial drive from buying the car so am hopeful it is sorted - either that or the BMW is a reincarnation of CHRISTINE and is fixing herself - now that would be handy! Thanks for the help, Im sure I'll be asking for more advice soon!
  8. the plate is worth £250 or there abouts... make me an offer :)
  9. Few piccys of her Pictures came out a little dark but you get the feel for her. Plate came with it and will replace in time :)
  10. Welcome Matey - Great bunch here, helping me with loads of issues at the moment! Lovely looking motor though!
  11. Regardless of the thermostat or sensor, if I put K-Seal in to stop the leak will it do any harm to the engine and cooling system? ;)
  12. Hi All I am losing water from my 2001 3 Series touring (318i SE) - I have been advised to change the thermostat as the rad is not getting hot. I can not find where the water is escaping and a pressure test proved inconclusive. Does anyone know if adding k-seal is a good idea or not? In the past I have owned some vehicles which I have been advised not to add k-seal or rad-weld as it buggers it up. Any thoughts and/or advice would be appreciated. THANKS!
  13. So I have just bought a BMW 318i SE Touring 2001 and I already need help... When I bought it last week I was given only one key which does not work remotely - do I need to go to dealership for a new battery remote key? And for spares? Also experiencing some unlocking issues - tonight I opened it and it didnt want to know. I eventually unlocked the drivers door and the others stayed locked (not the best for a family vehicle). Any ideas for a quick fix at home or should I just garage it? Help would be appreciated. Thanks
  14. Thanks guys. Will add some picture when I get chance to work it out
  15. Hello Everyone! I have just become a BMW owner for the first time. I have bought a 318i SE Touring in metalic grey with M-Sport alloys and a rather nasty addition to the stereo (an eonon sat-nav/dvd player/blue tooth/radio etc which I may well replace). I bought her (now called Nessie - as she is an-SE...) off of eBay - took a punt and put on a cheeky bid and happened to hit reserve and win. On test drive she was lovely and only one issue - engine management light on which had been diagnosed as the air mass meter. Upon driving home however the water light came on and the temperature shot up, going up and down, up and down until I managed to find a suitable place to pull over on the A303. After cooling down I added some water as it looked almost dry (should have checekd before I left I guess). The light came on again at Exeter so at the services I topped up again and drove the next 100 miles without a glitch. Next morning I checked the water and same amount as when topped in Exeter - JOY!!! I have since taken to local BMW specialist in Redruth, Cornwall for a diagnostics - air mass does need replacing but nothing else glaring for attention (except service due 7000 miles ago). When the diagnostic was being run the engine was hot but the rad was not (I had bled the rad so should not be an air lock) - they recommended replacing the thermostat. So thats this weekends task and see what happens. Seems like a great motor though, one I have drooled over for a fair old time and now have the pleasure of driving on a daily basis. In the past I have been a Honda CRX owner and member of the owners club, and a VW T25 Camper owner/enthusiast (x3) and hope I have made a sensible decision in buying a BMW! Hope to be active here when I can and not to bother too many people with problems! Cheers Baz B)
