Windscreen Cowl Cover removal question
That's good - I now have the official names of the parts and the product codes - the diagram would suggest they push in. Thank you Dave.

Windscreen Cowl Cover removal question
I have already successfully replaced the 3 sided weather strip around the windscreen that covers the top and two sides. Whilst doing that I noticed that the windscreen cowl (the wider bit that goes along the bottom of the screen under the wipers etc) also needs replacing, which will be the next job. However I have noticed two smaller, triangular shaped pieces in the bottom right and left hand corners that seem to act a "bridge" between the windscreen weather strip and the cowl. My question is - do these cover pieces just pull out or something more technical? I just thought I would check before I start yanking at them.

Vauxhall Cresta and the Hillman Imp. Those were the days ðĪĢ - the ones where it was a 50/50 gamble whether your car would start ðĪŠ Having said that they were the height of sophistication compared to my Grandfather's Morris 8.

Alloy Wheels Refurbishment
I have used Premier Wheel Repairs in Holmethorpe Avenue Redhill a couple of times and they have been excellent. However this was only with 14 inch wheels for a classic car so that is unlikely to give you an idea of the cost for yours. If you give them a ring they will be able to give you an idea of price 01737 551105

Simply BMW - Beaulieu - 19th September 2021
I attended a similar event for Jaguar owners a few years ago and it was a really good day out. Thank you for posting - one for the diary (hopefully).

Locating wheels on the hubs - very low key tip!
Maybe its only me but I've always found it frustrating trying to line up the holes in the wheels with the holes in the hubs, trying to support the wheel one handed against the weight (need more spinach). My simple solution (and maybe 100 people have already had this idea) was to cut the heads off two suitable set screws (or bolts), thus creating the right size studs, then squared off the end where the bolt head was. Now I insert these 2 studs just barely one turn in the top two holes of the hub and the wheel then goes straight on and stays there while I locate the other 3 wheel bolts. I then remove the 2 manufactured studs and replace with the wheel bolts. The reason I flatten one end of the studs off is so I can use a socket or thin nose pliers if the studs stick (only happens if you've put them in too far). It could just be that someone, somewhere would also find this helpful - I realise that this is not on a work of great genius! I put it on a par with someone telling me years ago to roll the front wheels of a Caterham onto a plank of wood so as to be able to get a jack underneath ðĪŠ I'm preparing to be mocked ðĪ

Dave, Your son definitely has the right idea. 800nm of torque would certainly fall into the category of "adequate" ð Burton engines - now that takes me back. My Caterham Supersprint had a 1700 X-Flow with the 711M block, twin 40s etc etc - only about 135 bhp but the best bit was the induction noise and the flames and banging on the overrun - not necessarily the peak of efficiency but a lot of fun at around 550kg. The thing I miss about the 7s is just the "feeling" -it's certainly not about top speed as they have the aerodynamics of a brick.

Thanks Dave. I was into "just add lightness", including a 2CV at one point, but now I seem to have gone gradually lardy (not just the cars) ðĪŠ If I could get another 7 I would do so (I miss them more than anything else) but my budget has become the limiting factor over recent times. So, frankly, my lower end but very nice E39 was the best I could do with the money - it was either that or a very leggy Skyline 350GT import. There is a very big price gap between the 520i and the 530i and above. The cunning master plan involves me investing in the lottery. My list of previous started with a 1958 Standard 10 - envious or what! My other 38 cars include some absolute dogs of the first order. I just get bored easily and always come up with some amazing (and hugely credible) justification for changing ð

Thank you. Just had a look at Greydog's list of "previous". His Horsepower total puts mine to shame ð

New E39 member slowing down!
Hello all. Having had a few years with various toys I now seem to be gradually going slower My progression has gone as follows: Westfield SeiW, Caterham Supersprint, Caterham Supersport, Lotus Elise S1, Nissan 350Z, Jaguar XK8 and now.......... an E39 520i SE auto! I haven't ruled out something less sensible in the future but I bought the E39 on a whim purely due to it's very low mileage (53k), single previous owner and service history. Yes it's not the fastest car in the world but I can see why E39s were so highly rated at the time. It's incredibly well made and silky smooth - in fact everything feels as if the engineers soaked all the components in double cream I've had it for two years - every time I think about getting rid of it, I talk myself out of it again, even though it's at the less desirable end of the model range. I'm kind of running it like a classic car now, just keeping everything standard, regular maintenance, polishing etc. Having said this my eyes keep being drawn to an Alpina B10............bigger pockets needed. Neil.
