E53 petrol fail safe again.
Right! Quick update…. replaced the throttle body with a brand new one and took all the pipes and diss valve off for a thorough clean. I found some hairline cracks in the folds of the air intake boot of the idle valve intake pipe, coverered it with order tape then electrical waterproof tape as I couldn’t get another one today. started the car and it was banging and popping and wouldn’t run… then I remembered to plug the throttle body back in! reset all modules and adaptions and it calmed down. took it for a 20 mile run at pace and it’s off like a whippet again. thank you to @Greydog as usual for the advice. hopefully this has sorted the issue and on to the next one!

Transmission Drive Moderately and now engine light
Looking around the net, most people are pointing toward coil pack failure. how is the battery? Do you have any diagnostic software? another one raised was a broken cam shaft wire. nothing to do with the drivetrain on any fault mentioned but my own experience has been that most faults and failsafe etc is down to a battery issue.

I have a new one coming Saturday… I may need to borrow your gun Sunday! Lol

Frustrated
Have you tried dpf cleaner? it could be something like a blocked manifold? my parents (non bmw) has just been serviced and now the turbo actuator has failed. Stripping it down, the manifold and all the inlet pipes were so clogged up it was choking itself. my petrol x5 has been jumping and stuttering and it looks like a failed throttle body. mine usually drops into fail safe mode, but sometimes a quick stutter and it’s off again. maybe worth trying the dpf cleaner route before anything else?

E53 petrol fail safe again.
Hi matey. It was a recon one, so it has a warranty. to be honest, I’ll just get a refund and buy a new one… do you think a pedal could be faulty? Would you expect it? It seems to jump and choke if I’m lightly feathering the throttle. Idles fine without fail safe mode intervention and seems to be ok at full throttle. ( not that I can do this much before either speed limits or trees get in the way.)

E53 petrol fail safe again.
Yet again, it’s dropping into fail safe mode. Drives fine, then it’s like a misfire…. Then fail safe, the three yellow lights and no power and stuttering… Got home and the revs are all over on idle. Little scanner showing the throttle position controller jammed… it’s so far had a new throttle body, new idle control valve, new battery, new maf… luckily I wasn’t on a motorway this time!

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
Ah! Gotcha…. ignore them. That’s the overlay of the aftermarket camera. This has no influence on the sensors. that’s the wallet guide to gauge how much damage will cost! 😂

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
Good morning and thanks for the advice as always. when you say visible indicator, where is that? Does the led on the button blink in time to the sound? I have an aftermarket head unit in the e53. cheers! I’m about to pull it all out and let her touch park!

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
Right… quick update… I have now replaced all sensors. They are all sat correctly and in position.. I have replaced the module in the boot. No faults are showing. if the engine is off, I turn the key to 1 and put car in reverse… sits there quiet until I approach a sensor. They react correctly and give me a low tone for the rear, high tone for the front… beeps speeding up as I get closer… start the car and put it in reverse with the engine running…. Beep boop, beep boop, beep boop… beep beep boop boop… then doesn’t warn me of the wall.. I can’t figure it out. No faults showing on any scanner, remove each sensor and it goes into fault, so as far as I can tell, all sensors are working, the wiring is working and the unit has been replaced. ..

Unsolved Problem!!
Hello! what engine is it? What model ? could be crank sensor, sticking throttle body, idle control valve, maf sensor…. I know as my x5 is giving me jip with similar symptoms

E53 petrol fail safe again.
Also noticed I have no headlight indicator on the dash now (blue high beam works) and the intermittent wipers have stopped! Lol

E53 petrol fail safe again.
Update… took it for a run today and it did 30 miles without an issue… then the check engine light came on, no loss of power… got home and it’s telling me banks 1 and 2 running outside tolerances. put a new MAF sensor on which I bought this week. Let’s see what the next test run does!

E53 petrol fail safe again.
Right, changed it… it’s a bit of a faff, but basically remove the airbox and everything into the throttle body and there it is. took it for a run and all seems nice… starts to come home and it suddenly goes into fail safe mode and loses all power again… gets it home and revs are all over the place. Computer says throttle position sensor Issue!. I have already replaced the throttle body. I’ll take it for another run later. 🙄😩

Z3 airbag wiring,
Hi. Do you have a light on the dash? It could be that someone fitted an emulator ?
-
E53 petrol fail safe again.
Right… changed the throttle body, now goes like stink… didn’t start… new battery, now starts and goes like stink…. now drops into fail safe and says the idle valve is mechanically stuck open. where is it, how much is it… can I kick it?

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
The sounder doesn’t come on when I fault the system and I’m getting both tones so I assume the speakers are correct. cheers mate!

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
Haha… I have ran out of ear defenders from children use! 😂 no faults showing on 1.4.0 or autel scanner. I get faults when I unplug sensors. I think I’ll buy a set of sensors and change the fronts… then see what happens.

X5 e53 reverse sensors video required please
Right! …. Changed the unit…. Still screaming away! lol. all the sensors are clicking away happily but it seems to be the high pitched tone is constant and interrupted by the lower… so I’m assuming it’s a front sensor confusing the system. any suggestions?? (apart from press the button to shut it up!) haha.

3.0i starter motor
Hi all…. Yet another headache! the starter motor has decided to pack up on the e53. anyone had to do this job? How easy is it? What should I expect? Should I just give it to a garage? I have a jack and axle stands…. And not a lot of time as usual…. any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

BMW 318i boot locked can’t get into
Take the front grilles out and you can access the cables for the hood/ bonnet release. I had to do this on the x5 recently.
