  1. Thanks Dave! mine is a 2002 3.0 petrol. the donor is a 2001 3.0 petrol. You’re a star for looking…. Or is it a slow day? Haha cheers!
  2. Morning James. first try quarry motors in Sheffield. They are really helpful.
  3. Hi Dave. Check to see if you can see the silver cable behind the lever in the footwell. If it’s still there, get some mole grips/ pliers on it and pull! if it’s not there, then it’s snapped and you’re destined to removing the kidney grills on the bonnet and manually opening the bonnet by cutting the plastics to locate the latches and remains of the cable… just done an x5 one and it was a right pain!
  4. Well…. All the bits are swapped over, so I now have a pile of scratched panels on the driveway. amazing how the wiring looms are all different colours between cars of the same models! i managed to get all lights and wipers working but for some bizarre reason, pressing the unlock button on the top bootlid just illuminates 1 interior light and doesn’t operate the lock! lol….. anyone got a wiring diagram? send the list over Dave, I’m sure I’ll find something I need or don’t need but will find a use for! Haha. … and I still can’t fathom the reversing sensors !
  5. Oh dear! Mine runs on windows 7. Can you get a copy of 7/ xp? create a second partition or run a virtual machine? I didn’t think about windows 11… or does anyone you know have an old laptop
  6. You need to remove the module from the car and scrape the microchips coating to read it. It’s not difficult if you follow the imstuctions
  7. Hi Norm, great news on the grandchild. Hope you had a great time. here is a video of a great step by step guide. my ews module is on the drivers side footwell… (rhs ) it’s a light grey box, looks like a cigarette box size. it’s a faff to do at the start, but once you understand how to read and write, it’s a breeze.
  8. Guess that’s my weekend sorted! either that, or I’m sleeping on the sofa as the spare bed is now taken! 😂
  9. Lift the car up and see if the wheel moves freely when the handbrake is off. then its brake disc pads without copper grease.
  10. My immediate guess is the handbrake shoes are too tight. People forget they are in there, separate from the disk pads. how old are brakes?
  11. Update! … bonnet and boot sourced and awaiting delivery from a very nice guy who breaks BMWs… Tim at bmw classic spares in Northampton. once they are on, I’ll set about polishing the whole car and try to hide the side scratches. It’ll be like a new un!
  12. The doors should polish out with a good t cut and paint pen…. The bonnet is deeply scratched… my wife got caught at 71 in a 60… going uphill in the diesel convertible… lord knows what it would have been in the X5. 😂 im now back at work, enjoying the silence!
  13. …. And my wife just got a speeding ticket! I’m going to find a corner to cry in!
  14. Ironically, he used the drill bit I was looking for to attach the number plate to the new caravan…. I gave up trying to redecorate the other one him and his sister painted! 😂😫🙄🙄🙄
  15. … decided he wanted to draw a robot….. on the x5…. With a drill bit! needless to say, his mother is now talking to him upstairs very loudly! IMG_1980.mov
  16. Welcome Geoff, enjoy the new car! saw this at work the other day….
  17. P.s… the original key might work if you change the battery. The door locks are not linked to the immobiliser or chip. The keys can be synced to the car doors once the battery is replaced.
  18. The chip can be seen on these pics and its location. This needs to be near the ignition barrel or it won’t be read. the kit from Amazon worked well with mine. I’m sure you can only write to the chips and not rewrite, so it’s a one shot. I programmed it before getting it cut jut in case.
  19. https://amzn.eu/d/ac9zWzG this one is from the Spanish site. Hope this helps!

  21. Hi Norrimac. the key you had cut, did they programme the key to the ignition? They would have had to read the key from your car and remove the dme unit and circuit board from your car. the chip in the key is a small black rectangular thing about the size of a rice grain… this is what needs programming. what key reader was used? If the ignition key works, then the reader doesn’t. The key reader I use is actually an AK90… I can send you a link if you are tech savvy.
  22. Oh no! It’s always the cats…. Or pigeons! I would assume bmw would replace it rather than a repair as it would be a main dealer. also, they should check the hub and anti roll bars and all the gubbins related to the wheel. Then they should check alignment etc…. It will not be cheap as you say. go through the insurance, it’s what you pay it for…. I know it will add premiums etc but backstreet Barry could do you a deal for £100 …. Approved dealers won’t and they will (or should) check everything with a fine tooth comb.
  23. Hi dimitri. I have a copy on windows 7 and it works fine.
  24. My x5 drivers side did this and it was the spring had lost its tension. I just bought another from eBay and fitted it in 5 minutes. job done!
  25. Do the revs go up and down? does it feel like it’s mis firing? how bad is the shaking?
