  1. If the stereo wanted to start up every time it was powered then the red and yellow power wires were wrong in the loom. An adaptor kit is sometimes needed, which any good dealer should have spotted. the warning noises from the car should not come from the stereo if I’m not mistaken.
  2. If it is only one door, as I read it now... you will have to take the interior off to get to the lock mechanisms. I think they had a white plastic link which were the weak point
  3. Stupid question, but do the doors unlock with the remote? also, where did the car come from? do you have it’s history. sounds an odd question but some of the 7lm cars were used as diplomat cars and MOD cars so door handle function on the rear may have been disabled. check the child locks on the door frame and see if this makes the inner levers operate
  4. Pulling to the right and brake light could be a sign of handbrake stuck on? can you jack the car up and turn the wheels easily? not sure what effect this would have by changing the stalks though.
  5. Morning John. welcome to the forum.
  6. Have you tried changing the battery? if it looses amps, only for a second, it could bring up the light. This could also explain why it comes on less on a long run. worth buying a battery from the scrap yard to test. check that the alternator is giving out the correct voltage and battery is holding charge.
  7. Hi Dave, do you have any recommendations for the led headlights? Do I need to swap 2 or 4? also, I was thinking of wiring my halos up and run them as daylights. I can code them but no option to use the sidelights, only headlights. Cheers!
  8. Bizarre! sounds like it’s exhaust related then... make sure all the bolts are tight. Are the exhaust joints rubbing when the engine is running? Could it need exhaust paste? heatsheild could be rattling but it doesn’t make that noise, it would be much louder if it’s loose. As you held the back box and the noise stopped, I would look at exhaust mounts and all clams and joins of the system right through to the manifold.
  9. 10 minutes??? my e46 took me about 4 hours. It had all sorts of torx head screws and the like. I lost more knuckles than patience....
  10. The air con pulley has a kind of slip bearing on it which would make this noise if the air con is off. Turn the air con on and see if the noise stops when the clutch on the pump engages. it definitely sounds like something attached to the belts rather than the engine itself. I had an old e36 4pot which had the pulley with the knock sensor on it. That bearing failed and allowed the pulley to move forward and back. Try pulling each pulley away from the engine and if one moves, it is a good place to start
  11. That’s A metallic sound. Does it change on revs? firstly check oil levels on the engine. I would think the noise is a bearing from a pulley. Most likely the alternator or air con pump.
  12. Hi all. sorry if this has been done before. i would like another key for the x5. I have been quoted around £150 all programmed and cut, I didn’t think it was too bad.... secondly, can I have the individual keys set for seat position etc. my wife is a fair bit shorter than me and uses setting #1.... I get in and have to press #3 and wait a few seconds till the car goes to my settings. can we code the keys to select our settings on pressing the unlock button? I have the bmw 1.4.0 software and can talk to the ecu. thanks! The key is the older diamond shape, the car is e53 2002 x5
  13. Is it automatic or manual? if it’s manual, can you push start it? my thoughts are... starter motor if it’s manual or automatic or gear select sensor If it’s automatic (if they have them fitted, basically they tell the car not to start if they are in gear) can you put a 12v feed direct to the starter motor? good luck, let me know what happens
  14. Well..... kind of! picked this up on EBay for £30. Jacob is only 11 weeks old, he will grow into it! ... and the headlights are brighter than the wifes e53!
  15. Wow Dave, sounds like fun with the halos. this one has them fitted so I’ll leave them in. God shout about the led bulbs, I didn’t think of that. I’ll get some and report back! cheers stu.
  16. Afternoon Dave, thanks for the reply. the car is mine in the pic. I was thinking they were aftermarket lamps too. I think I might put some original ones in as I can’t see a thing! thanks for the advice, I have used quarry before for one of the e36’s
  17. ..... are utter poo! can the standard headlights be upgraded on a 2002 model? apparently it has projector lamps. I have seen brighter caves. is it a straight swap for hid or too much hassle?
  18. Gave it to my friend .... I had to get an x5 as the new sons pram won’t fit in the e46. Lol
  19. Awesome! thanks for that, I’ll give it a go later thanks Dave.
  20. Dave, thank you for your great reply. I am using a c110 scanner, it works wonders but I could do with the bmw one that everyone talks about... the 1.4.... mall the sensors are clicking and all sound the same, so I can’t seem to find the weak one. Ill get the other scanner and see what pops up. Thanks again!
  21. Hi, i have had a few BMW’s but I now have my first x5. Its an e53 2002 3litre petrol, manual. Anyway. Simple question about parking sensors.... as always, by sounds of it. Sorry if I need to post this somewhere else the system doesnt beep when I reverse. It beeps for a few seconds when I engage reverse and the light on the centre console flashes. I have checked the sensors and they are all clicking, front and back. I have plugged in the obd scanner and no codes are thrown up, I cleared them anyway, but still nothing. Any ideas, and please feel free to move this post if needed. thanks. Stu
