I've got a set of 17inch winter wheels and tyres for my 2007 325 which i recently sold

Ive just bought a 3 series saloon F30 model which has 16inch wheels on it but ive been told by BMW my old winter wheel and tyre set are incompatable

Is this correct do you know or just BMW trying to make me part with more cash?!
