Broken 62 Reg 116I - Now Been In Dealers For 3 Weeks +

Featured Replies

Our lovely six week old 116i conked out over three weeks ago. "Drivetrain malfunction". It had to be towed back to our house. The BMW technician who came to look at it plugged in his laptop and it seems the engine thought it had no oil so refused to start. Needless to say, it did have oil in it.

Anyway, the car was then taken to Synters High Wycombe where it has been for over three weeks. Today they told me they are "waiting for a part from Germany". Which was exactly the same thing they told me last week.

It seems they are replacing one part, seeing if it works, then replacing another part (and so on until you have a new engine I assume).

I can live with it for the time being as BMW Assist (or whatever they're called) have supplied a rental 3 series (318d with all the toys, but it's just reinforced my view that diesel engines are horrible).

So, regarding the malfunction:

Does anyone else have experience of this problem?

Any advice re long term reliability of the vehicle?

Tom.

Hi and welcome to the BMW Owners Club.

I have seen a couple of cases of Drivetrain issues. But its hard to tell if it is the same issues to what you have, it could be one of many things.

Sorry I could not Answer your question, but welcome anyway :)
