Hi guys.

Hope some one can help me . I got this E39 1997 R REG 523I SE . A ll it keeps doing is stalling when I come to traffic lights. I called the AA out and he took the Mass Air Filter sensor off and it started , but after a while it kept stalling. Can anyone help or got any ideas on why it keeps doing this.

My Dad went to see the dealed i got it from and he didn't seem to have a clue. it also rattles when i pull off and the air bag red warning light is constantly on . HELP PLEASE.

I have waited ages to get a BMW and I hope I have not been sold a dud.

Markie where abouts do you live? I have a E39 on my drive we could swap bits around on to find your fault

When was the Lambda sensor last changed? They only last a set period.

Take a look in the engine bay for any split/leaking hoses.

If you have just bought this, I would run some Catcleaner through the engine, see bottle for instructions, and then burn a tank of Shell V Power to clean things up.

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak and/or a possible sticky throttle body. Get yourself a can of Carb-Cleaner and start cleaning bits within the respiratory system.

If it is running smoothly it may just be a dirty crank sensor or tps.be a easy fix

TPS OR The Crank sensor, Easy stuff as Ian suggested. Two bolts/screws each. Dash of Carb-Cleaner. Quick and easy

I had a similar problem with my 5 series 528. The problem was resolved when the prop shaft sensor was replaced. the sensor governs the fuel into the engine. Secondly the reason for the seat belt light to show in the dash relates to the loom cable under the seat either the passenger seat or driver's. Whilst they can be repaired you may ultimately require a new one. Hope the answer helps.

Yep, dirty sensors indeed... Clean the MAF (do not touch the sensor), check ALL intake and breather hoses for oil ingress or poor connections ;)

Simple answer, get it diagnosed with good equipment. As stated, probably cam or crank sensors BUT you will save hours if you have a fault code!
