i have just joined the owners club and purchased a bmw 1series 120d sport it has 17 inch wheels and run flat tyres, do ineed to get run flat tyres when i needs to change any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Hi Rob, Welcome to the forum, I believe you need to keep run flat tyres, as if you have an accident your insurance company will say that you have changed the car from BMW original spec, but I would clarify it with your insurance company, and if they say you can change the tyres, make sure you get it in writing, good luck.

Try to investigate the rim specifications... I say this because tyres are classed as "Consumables" therefore if you maintain the the tyre-size then there wouldn't be an issue.

Rim spec will determine whether or not a standard tyre will "seat" properly on that rim ! (Some rims have extra ribtracks to hold the tyre-wall)

HTH buddy ;)

welcome mate, +1 to Al and Dabsy, had run flats on my 05 530d sport and was told by BMW you have to replace with run flats as linked to the system and ordinary tyres would be sending alarms off every where but that was 7 year ago, so maybe there is a way of disabling the run flat system, but as far as i was aware you had to change like for like....
