I have a 330ci 53 reg facelift model with 133,000 on the clock, full bmw service history, but recently after about 5 or 6 miles of driving, i slow down for traffic or lights i get a smell of burning oil. There is no sign of oil dripping on to the drive, and i've got the engine up to temp on the drive to see if the rocker cover gasket is leaking, but no sign of it, any ideas would be gratefully recieved

This could be a few things first thing is to check the engine bay top and bottom first and then also check how much more does your car smoke look in the rer view mirror when your your hiting revs over 4000 revs .

Lift the rocker box off, remove the two plastic bolt covers and two 10 mm bolts should be exposed, See if you can find any leaking oil into the spark plug bores.

My 7 Series has a slight leak on the power steering and when inspected it drips onto the exhaust but no sign on the drive etc but i smell slight burning oil, so maybe dripping onto the exhaust.
