Radiator Light Displayed

Sat in my bmw compact with the engine running, then noticed a burning smell and saw that me temperture was in the red.

Now i get some clicking noise coming from under the hood.

Has anybody had that problem?

Get that into a garage ASAP sounds like the head gasket has failed and is losing compression from the outside

The "clicking" may be the engine "Pinking" at overheat stage so deffo head/gasket issue... Did you let it run in an overheated state for long?

Pre-Ignition (in an overheating engine) is where the engine becomes hot enough to fire the fuel before the spark-plug !

As stated above, the ping sounds like pinking. Premature bang

You might get away with it NOT being a head gasket problem but you wont if you don't get it to a grease monkey as soon as possible.
