2001 E46 330Ci: Odd Squeak After Strut/topmount/control Arm Replacements.

Featured Replies

Man this is annoying.. last weekend I replaced, both front shocks for OEM BOGE units.. and the top, also fitted new Meyle front Control arms and bushes. This has made the front end feel much better, but now I get an annoying squeak which seems to come from the passenger side when I turn and going slowly over slightly rough surface. So I'm a little perplexed, I've seemed to lost a clunk and got a squeak for my troubles?.. I'm worried I've fitted something incorrectly.

It's got an MOT next week and a wheel alignment booked in, so I think I may get them to take a look. we did notice on the passenger side one of the rubber gromits that sit between the spring and the strut would not seat properly, I'm wondering if it could be that?

Also I shone a torch up in the wheel wells it looks like the spring may not be seated right up to the stop in the top plates?.. both are about 1 cm or just over from the stop (bugger) so maybe this is causing an issue, and I recall one of the top mounts had a little play in it once on the shock.. It was new, maybe I should have just put the old one back on, but it was late etc etc you know the story.

I have also heard that the strut brace can cause squeaks.. but as this problem seems to be when turning the after turning it seems odd, and also the pad wear sensor Is another thing that can squeak, and also the little bracket that sits on the control arm can cause squeaks to.. so I'm told?

So I think maybe I need to spend a while at the weekend spraying silicon lube on the bushes etc may help, I may try loosening the FCARBs and getting a little copper slip behind them. checking around the brakes to as these were disturbed during fitting the new components, other than that I'm out of ideas.. apart from sling it into my local indy and see what they come up with.
