hello all , new member here ....... just bought an 06 520d and the dpf needs replacing , the dealer are sorting it but as the missus only does short town journeys are we better off in the long run just getting rid of it ? . also can you force a regeneration or is it in the hands of the computer ? ...... be patient as i'm a novice but quite practical ... many thanks in advance !

You can remove the DPF, and even get more Torque/Power 'n Mpg !!!

Have it done correctly as you might need a Re-Map...

Have a look at this...

after having a new dpf (not bmw part) fitted , the car was good for less than 2 weeks ! ........ dealer has now paid to have it removed and the computer re-mapped , just driven it 130 miles and so far so good .... fingers crossed !!!

Hehehehe Good luck mate... Another Crime solved, we hope... ;)

still going fine ........ what is the point of a dpf if you have to drive at 3000 revs for 50 miles every week ...... hardly saving the planet is it !
