Keys And Central Locking

So I have just bought a BMW 318i SE Touring 2001 and I already need help...

When I bought it last week I was given only one key which does not work remotely - do I need to go to dealership for a new battery remote key? And for spares?

Also experiencing some unlocking issues - tonight I opened it and it didnt want to know. I eventually unlocked the drivers door and the others stayed locked (not the best for a family vehicle). Any ideas for a quick fix at home or should I just garage it?

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks
