Hi, I have a E36 Compact and want to tidy up some of the rough bits the last owner left. I had a problem with the rear ashtray lid not staying down so pulled it apart and sorted out the mechanism. Noticed that during this that there is a little plastic fork at the bottom that flips up a little when the lid opens. I assume that there is supposed to be a plastic cup/tray that sits on top of this and I would like to replace it. Now if someone knows where I could get one it would be appreciated!

I don't think there is supost to be somehting 'sitting' ontop of the rear ashtray :huh: I may be wrong btu I'm sure one of our E36 homies will be able to answer that pretty quickly

Sometimes there is a little chrome like thing that pops up to hold the cigarette in place? Think it might just be that?

The reason I thought there was something missing is that if, god forbid, someone tried to put a !Removed! out in the ashtray all the ash would drop thru a gap in the base of it and set the carpet on fire... Not really ideal as I am sure you can imagine. I will upload a photo so you can see what I've got... failing that it'll be tracking down a whole ashtray, have seen a few on fleabay.... Yes, Pics are a good idea!

If your like me and woudlnt let ANYONE smoke in your motor, It shouldn't be a problem. If your not really fussy and your only really worrying about it burning the carpet, nothing a bit of strong tape wont fix ;)
