Hi there,

I have a BMW 316i, with 106,000 on the clock.

I need to top up the engine oil, although it only had oil put in during its last service in February, it appears to have run out - long running problem.

What is the best oil to use?

I do think I have a leak of some sort because it seems to run out of oil, but I cant see any on the floor once the cars moved- if anyone has any suggestions they'd be gratefully recieved!

Many thanks

Jennifer

hi jennifer.welcome to bmwoc.somebody will be along with some answers soon ;) ;)

It must be "Burning" it then !!

It's not advised, but with older engines I tend to put "Thicker" oil in... This usually slows down the inevitable...

I put Diesel engine oil in a petrol engine as it has tougher qualities !

I put recycled oil in my van I have a drum under it at night what comes out goes back in the morning :-)

Ahhh, Duckhams LOL

5W30 is 'best' for your engine

In the future, please post a new thread as it will help others who have the same motor as you

NO. Don't ever add the wrong oil type. Solve the problem instead: The 316 is renowned for valve stem oils seals going. They perish. Get them replaced then drop the oil and filter. Add fresh corect oil and new filter.
