Hi, last Summer I bought a 66 plate 320i to replace my Jaguar XE type R sport (got a dodgy hip and was having trouble getting in and out) with which I am very happy. The Satnav maps need to be updated and I thought that while software was being fiddled with I would see if any other extras (iPlayer would be useful) I would see if any BMW specialists in my area (South Midlands) could programme any other facilities. I’ve been told, but don’t know how true it is, that BMW load the car with all possibly software facilities and then enable only the ones that you ask for on the original order form (which, spookily, I found in the bundle of papers that came with the car). I mailed a few local specialists, most of whom came back with the answer “we don’t touch that sort of thing, you need to go to a Main Dealer”. One specialist said that they do mess with the software but their machine broke and they’ve had to send it back to a Germany for repairs. Does anyone know what upgrades might be possible to the software on a car of my age, any specialists they could recommend, or the price for a Main Dealer comprehensive upgrade? I understand that the head units have changed during the life of the F30, mine shows RL_EntryNav_Nav_l15405A as unit type.

Welcome to the Forum

I don't understand why several manufacturers BMW included have made upgrades such a faff all they have succeeded in doing is drive folks towards Android upgrades ??

First talk to your local Dealer and get cost estimates. There is a register of BMW specialists check it online there should be a few around you compare prices with the Main dealer.

Or as many have done upgrade to an Android screen (done this myself) cost for my E70 was around £200 I fitted it myself in a morning with a few coffee breaks. The upgrade allows Android Auto, Apple Car Play and of course more Apps than you can ever use 🤣 My sat nav is allways bang upto date as the App tells me of upgrades, it allows Music and video streaming

Personally the Android upgrade would be my route these days
