Hi, does anyone have experience of fitting an aftermarket tow bar to an X4 G02? BMW want over 4k to fit (which includes charging radiator and battery), aftermarket ones are about £1k including vehicle specific wiring kit and coding. I’m nervous about going aftermarket in case they mess up the electrics / coding.

Morning John

Welcome to the Forum

BMW OEM fitment is I believe Oris or Westfailia so an after market fitting from either company should be OK as the loom is pre-designed to be plug and play (no hacking into the cars loom)

My E53 X5 came with a Westfailia removable tow bar from new, my E70 3.0d has an Oris removable tow bar fitted by a Local tow bar specialist no problems or issues with any electrics.

Thanks Dave, are there any manufacturers of wiring kits to look out for, the one used by Towsure is Right Connections.

John

Hi John

I am not aware of Right Connections worth a Google search to see if their kits are "Universal" or Specific to a model

The local Company I used (Tanfield Towbars) ordered in the Oris kit for the X5 and it came with the loom complete It just needed plugging into the PDC controller and registering to the chassis.

If the trailer plug is connected to the car the rear PDC is disconnected but the rear view camera is still in use.

I would think any competent Towbar Specialist would know how it all goes together and how it should work
