Dear Group

New member.

Vehicle 2011 Mini Countryman 1.6 diesel.  Approx 130K miles

The vehicle will open and close from the fob however it will not start.   The central locking is strong when it opens and closes so the assumption is the battery has plenty power in it (jump start attempted without success).  When you push the key into the holder no dash lights come on at all (well the stop/start button is already illuminated) This initially happened with the primary key whereby it would open and close the car but would not start it in exactly this manner.  The spare key has since been getting used and now we have this same issue with this one.  The vehicle has been owned for about 6 years so the assumption is the batteries in the fobs are original.  I've looked at the shocking procedure for replacing them so thought I would post before I slice my fingers off with a Stanley Knife plus if the car will open and close then clearly the fob battery is not totally dead?

All help appreciated

Morning Justin

Welcome to the Forum

Changing the battery in the key fob shouldn't need any surgery (before or after the change 😅

Remove the emergency key from the fob, turn the fob over and use the end of the key to prize open the back of the fob. With the fob open use the end of the key to prize open the battery cover release the battery and replace it. Then put it back together 🤣 I  have a neighbour who insisted I show her how and she managed it without breaking any finger nails

Several videos on the internet now

Good luck

Dave
