Hi, gonna try make this straight to the point, so I’m having issues trying to solve what’s going wrong with my DPF. I have recently bought a diagnostic tool from LAUNCH after noticing my DPF warning light has been popping up, even after taking the car out for typical long run and high revs.

When plugging the diagnostic tool into the car, and run a quick scan I get the following fault codes 480A and 481A, these two codes saying that my DPF is blocked and being marked as current on the diagnostic report

So far this all makes sense, but I also get a code 4D00 and 4010 these both meaning there is a fault with the back pressure sensor in the DPF but this is marked as “History” on the diagnostic report, does this mean it used to be an issue? Or is it because I would need the light to come on for it to pop up as a “current” DTC

If this was the only information I had, I would just assume I would need to replace the pressure sensor, but when looking at the live data when turning the engine on, the sensor seems to be working (going up and down with acceleration) the thing that is throwing me off from the live data is the temperature, this being -40 even with the car engine running and not really moving at all so maybe the reason why my DPF is getting blocked is because the car can’t detect when the DPF is hot enough to begin a regeneration cycle.

lastly when I go to try a force regeneration the software won’t allow me, due to the fault codes 480A and 481A but this only happens when the engine is running if I put in a request for a force regeneration without the engine on I can but when I take the car out for a long drive the regeneration process doesn’t happen.

overall I’m really confused and conflicted with all this information, which of these seem to be the most likely cause of my DPF getting blocked any help would be greatly appreciated I will try my best to provide further information

thanks

Morning Lewis

Welcome to the Forum

The DPF will only regen if all temperatures are in the correct zone, a regen clears soot from the system but not ash, which can remain and block the DPF. Engine condition and Mileage will have an effect

So make sure your engine is operating at the correct temperature, check/change the engine thermostat. check/change the temperature and pressure sensors on the DPF (you should get test parameters from the internet) once all is good and engine at operating temp you should be able to clear down the codes and force a regen, there are now several companies who clean DPF's may be worth trying that.

I have never used Launch diagnostics (I use ISTA/INPA) so not sure if you need to cancel faults in an order for them to clear. Faults recorded in the history are normally (ISTA/INPA at least) not present so should be easy to clear.

Good Luck

Dave
