I recently purchased a rebuilt head from Peter Prinsloo of Autohead Performance. Upon receipt of the head, my BMW installer informed me it was worse than the head they were replacing and strongly adviced me not use the head as there was a hole in the deck, a broken tube inside a coolant passage and numerous metal shavings throughout the head. I called Peter who was surprised and very defensive about his work, despite me showing him the pictures and my evidence from the installer. He went on to blame them for their incompetence. He proceeded to bait and switch me into buying a new head for $400 more. I told him I just wanted to return the head for a refund,  to which he launched into an angry text tirade. Finally he agreed but he would charge me the shipping which I told him this is not a voluntary return, it is a defect return. Do not buy from him he lies and cheats. Save your time and money and look somewhere other than this clown.

Sadly there will always be people out there who try to make money by providing the minimum for their maximum gain. Sounds like you escaped without to much pain, a shame we can't get back the time lost/wasted by these chancers. 

Lucky you have a good BMW Specialist doing the engine rebuild who picked up the shoddy work.
