Morning M6driver

Welcome to the Forum

A dangerous thing to do but here goes, I assume you have the SMG gearbox in your M6 so the fault you are suffering could be the SMG pump or valve body and not the gearbox. I have seen a scruffy M5 (same box) that just needed a new/replacement pump and fluid/filter change. The young man who brought the car as "Spare or Repair" for very little. spent less than £1000 on a pump and service kit then a weekend getting grubby. Hey Presto with a good clean he had a fully working M5.

I dare say BMW will want all your money plus a few body parts to fit a new box, however they only replace not repair. As the car is worth I would guess between £14k and £20k in good condition cost of repair is important. Find a good ZF specialist and get them to analyse the problem and quote for repair. Personally if repair is less than a 1/3d of the Value it is worth the cost as the value of the car without a working gearbox will be very low.

It will depend on how much you like your car as to the decision you come to. Good Luck

Dave
