Hi all,

Bimmerlink has been consistently returning the following errors on my 2016 F45 225 Xe Active Tourer:

Info Memory

Date:
VIN:

10 Central gateway module
8 errors

101008: Non-resolvable ambiguous routing - SG not in the SVT target table
100600: Flexray protocol startup time is too high
100601: Unexpected asynchronous state on Flexraybus
100100: Contact to FZM slave lost
100104: HW Weckgrund ZGW
100300: Commissioning could not be carried out because TAS is already busy
100203: DM software error info warning
100204: Message monitoring: no system context signal

Can anyone tell me what these mean? Are they related to each other or have I actually got 8 problems here?

Thanks,

Julian

Morning Julian

Not a Bimmerlink user as I have my own diagnostic program but some thoughts are

How is the car running? Do you have any Dash or I drive warnings? On start up you have a massive quantity of Control units all trying to talk to each other you only need one to timeout and it can give a list like yours. Remember it takes your car around 15/20mins to close down completely after engine stop key out car locked.

Small variations in voltage are often mis read and show as faults so (1) Is the battery in Tip Top condition? (2) If the battery is good you should read around12.8 +v at the charge points under the bonnet engine off ignition on, around 14+ v engine running

As your car is 2016 is it still on the original Battery?

Thanks Dave.

The car is running very well - no warnings of any kind on the dash or iDrive.

I had the battery replaced by a BMW dealer in December but I will use Bimmerlink to read the voltage later just to be sure.  I replaced it as I had a much wider array of error codes when it was first read by a friend's Bimmerlink and it had been suggested to me that the old battery being on 64% could be causing some of the errors.

I'll update the thread in a bit.

Cheers!

I found a couple of different sensor values related to the 12V battery that I could attach to a Bimmerlink dashboard, plus Bimmerlink has a separate 12V Battery State button.  The readings seem to look fine.

So the images show
1) Battery state
2) Voltages with engine running
3) Voltages with engine off

Morning Julian

Looking at your Battery values as shown not being a Bimmerlink user I am not sure how to interpret the 84% reading, was that engine off or just started? the other readings seem to indicate engine running 14.7v would be a healthy charge from the alternator

An 84% charge would be 10 or 11v which could be low enough to trigger your faults

If the car is running well you may want to put those faults down as WALLET ALERTS 🤣

Thanks again Dave.

I don't really understand what that percentage 'State of Charge' is - and from a quick Google neither do many others 😀https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=what+does+bimmerlink+"State+of+Charge"+indicate.  Seems like it may not be a good indicator of battery health.

I took that reading during today's quite cold morning and before starting the car.

Another possible contributory factor could be that most of my drives now start from cold and are only a few miles long.  That can't be great for a battery.  Mind you, I did do 150 miles each way last weekend.

As you say, the voltages would indicate a healthy charge rate.

You're right about the 'wallet alerts' - I should stop worrying about them.  The battery cost £290 at the dealer as it was.

Someone also suggested to find a place that has ISTA and get it to read the codes and see if they are present using that tool (and what it might suggest to fix them if they are).

Cheers!

  • 2 weeks later...

So I took the car to a 'German' garage and had the codes read on their ISTA equipment.  Absolutely no codes showed up.  They took it for a drive and re-read the codes.  Again no codes.

I got the car back home and read the codes again with Bimmerlink - even more codes than the previous "Errors within Central Gateway" were now suddenly showing up.  I tried clearing them and some of the new ones wouldn't clear either.

Anyway, I've driving around for a week since then and just went out and read them again today. Loads of errors this time lol...

I  cleared them again (this time at least it seemed to let me clear them), went shopping and here's what I just got got as my last reading of the codes:

The Error Memory output was the same as above i.e. 1 x heating error but I had a thought and instead of just having the car started (no revs as this is a hybrid), I engaged sport mode which starts the engine and read the Error Memory again - no code this time.  Who knows what this means but it could mean an issue with heating only when heating from the battery.
