E87 Start problems, help and advice?

Hello,

I have an E87 120D automatic, 2008 with idrive (ccc).

here a few weeks ago I put in the key in the ignition and pressed the Start/stop button.
first nothing happens, then the idrive screen fills with lots of error messages and the startermotor starts spinning but the car does not start.
I press the start/stop button again, turn off the car and take out the key.
I start again from the beginning, this time the car starts immediately and all the error messages disappear from the screen.
this was the first time it happened.

this morning the same thing happened again, first nothing, then spinning the the startermotor starts spinning without starting at the same time as the idriven is filled with lots of error messages.
though this time it did not start on the second attempt.

tested four times with the same result.
then I disconnected the battery and let it stand for a while, where I then tested twice more without success.
I then tried to put the gearbox in N then back in P (do not know if this is relevant but I did it) then it started on the first try.
and all faults in the idrive disappears.

this time, however, I wrote down all the error messages and scanned it with my ODBII reader.
and this is where I seek help to understand how half of the error messages have something to do with my problem.
and wonder if anyone has been through the same or may have an idea why it does so?

when I scanned it was the error codes I got from the ODBII reader:

a0b3 starter motor, terminal 50
CF33 No message from engine management

The error codes in idriven were as follows:

Fault In Drive!
DSC failure! Drive moderately
DBC failure! Drive moderately
Fuel Pump!
Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

then as soon as it started all the error codes disappeared and the car drives as usual.
all the help and ideas that you have are greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

/Arthur

Morning Arthur

Welcome to the Forum

First check your battery and its condition a low battery will cause all sorts of spurious Fault messages. If charging make sure its done at the charge points under the bonnet.

If it happens again try starting in N if that works it could be the inhibitor switch on the gear selector

Good luck
