I disconnected the battery because the screen wipers will not turn off then because its raining and with thinking I closed the boot/trunk is there a way to open it manually

Morning Kelvin

There is normally a manual/emergency release pull check your handbook for it's location

Or you could try connecting a batery to the charging points under the bonnet see if it allows the central locking to work

Thanks Dave but I've sorted it now, do you know which fuse powers the windscreen wipers?

Morning Kelvin

I think in the boot the fuse panel there will have a fuse location diagram folded up in the holder

Most BMW's have fuses and relays behind the glove box and in the boot and a panel in the engine bay. All I can tell you is the X5 wiper fuse is 37 in the glove box panel there is also a relay (probably your issue) all you need is the 3ft long multi jointed fingers of a Bavarian Gnome that can grip like mole grips and it's simple 🤣

Check for the layout diagram in the boot
