Use of an Airtag or Similar on the Key FOB ?
An interesting topic, I have considering getting one for my motorbike key (cost hundreds to replace if lost) so at £35 for an AirTag it's worth a punt. However, not sure how effective it is as it relies on Bluetooth and can only triangulate to a rough area then I guess it tracks more accurately once you are within that area. Also, have read that some airlines won't let them be used when traveling as they can affect the plane's electronics. Once I get one, will update this post to let you know pros and cons but I guess for that money it's worth a try as cheaper than replacing a key -

Morning Rory I had to ask someone what this was, the guy I talked to is a Porsche/Merc Specialist he had only seen 2 in use, described it as a toy to help you track keys. He also said as they are bluetooth after about 30ft they are useless, he hadn't heard of interference or battery draining. So I guess it is a case of "you make your choice and pay your money" If it works let us know, if it causes headaches warn us 😅 Dave -

Morning Oliver Welcome to the Forum Taking your points in order 1. Simple answer NO the gas struts assist and hold the tailgate open but were never designed to open it. A powered tailgate is a different beast altogether, not sure if you can retrofit a powered tailgate if all the loom is there it should be possible but someone with software will need to enable it. 2. Pan roofs were/are well known for their problems, there are repair kits available but if you are not into DIY it may be best to talk to a specialist check the register of BMW Specialists they are normally about half Dealer costs 3. I take it you have checked all bulbs and there is no sign of corrosion were the bulbs mount. I would check the loom where it passes from the tailgate into the body near the hinges it isn't unknown for wires to crack and break after years of opening and closing the tailgate. A fairly straight forward repair depending on your soldering skills. you will need to remove trim to carry out repairs Hope this helps Dave -

New Car New Questions
Hi guys, newbie to the forum, but just purchased a lovely 2007 530i and had a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help with: 1. with new struts, will the boot fully open when unlocking with the key? I have small kids and that would be a huge benefit, but don't want to invest if not possible. 2. the large panoramic sunroof tilts but doesn't go back, is it worth trying to fix yourself, or better to let a specialist look at it? Assume it's the motor, but not sure how big a job that is. 3. I have a service light for the rear right reverse light, I changed the bulb, light remained on, then I realised if I open the boot with the engine running 3 further issues present themselves (left number plate light, right number plate light, right rear fog light) - assume this is due to dodgy wiring, but can't find where the wiring runs - any help greatly appreciated. Really appreciate any help with these, cheers.
