Kick to open boot issue

Hi there

I'm new here.

I have had my 330i for over a year now. The automatic boot lid where you kick and it opens had been working fine all this time. Suddenly two days ago it stopped working.

I tried it with both my keys in the pocket (not at the same time, of course)

Anyone else has this issue?

Just to clarify, I am not new to this. I have used that function three to four times a day, everyday for the past 18 months.

Please help.

Best regards

Bp

Hi Bharath

Welcome to the Forum

I don't have the function but have seen others with it (brother inlaws 535d touring) though he tends to pop the lid using his key fob most of the time. I take it you have done the normal fuse checks? If there are no issues it could be the sensor a code read seems sensible to isolate the issue.

Thank you very much for responding, Dave.

I hadn't even thought of checking the fuses, dad brain I suppose.

Silly question, how do I read the code? Do I need to buy an adapter or does this need to be done professionally.

As you gather, in very new to this.

Thank you ever so much.

Afternoon Bharath

Check your handbook for fuses and their location. As for reading the fault codes you will either need a BMW specific code reader or software such as INPA/ISTA, Carly for BMW (subscription) Autologic, there are quite a few these days or a friendly local BMW specialist or maybe a member on here who could check the fault codes. Then of course there are the BMW Dealers but they do know how to charge 😈

Checked the fuses today. They were three of them assigned for rear boot opening and I checked all three of them. None of them are blown.
I suppose it is now down to reading the error code!
Sadly I don't know anyone near me who has a code reader.

Morning Bharath

That is very long winded, I would start by checking the sensor (if you haven't already) just in case there is a poor connection. Check online to see if there is a continuity value you can check with a multi meter. If the fuses are OK and wiring checks out plus if the boot release on the fob still operates, then consider changing the sensor.
