Hi Everyone

I'm completely new to the BMW world coming from petrol Hondas and have been looking for some time for a 3 series m sport + touring as a second reasonably low cost car as a workhorse. I have come across one on a 60 plate at 150k which I am going to view and was wondering if anyone could share any buyers advise other than the obvious universal checks ? I did have a look for some sort of buyers guide but couldn't really spot anything.

Any advice much appreciated

Ben

Hi Ben

Welcome to the Forum

As with any car the normal checks are paramount, plus make sure everything works there are no "easy fixes" if there were it wouldn't need doing or the seller could do it before sale? So push every button operate every switch make sure if it's fitted it works.

Engine wise there were some well documented issues with the 2.0 diesel engines timing chains the thinking was that the extended service intervals didn't help.

The 6 cylinder engines are a very different story 2.5 and 3.0 diesels are tough as a tough thing and very tune able. Gearboxes still need servicing and around 150k I would expect it to be approaching it's second service, I would look for evidence it's been done.

If it were me I would look for a 2.5/3.0d Touring solid work horse and great fun when you want it.

Hi Dave thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Apparently its just had its major service so i'd ask for evidence. Also apparently had clutch and flywheel replaced recently.
