Guys, I own a 2006 E90 325i auto. Is there any way I can remove the brake "Drive off assistant"?

I assume you mean the "Hill Hold" function is sticking I am not aware of a way to turn it off I am afraid. It is obviously not working correctly so I would either fix it yourself or get it sorted at a BMW specialist. If doing it yourself take a look at www.newtis.info it is a BMW Technical site all the information should be there.

Hi Dave and thanks for the welcome, the BMW manual that came with the car calls it the "Drive off Assistant" I don't think it's sticking as such just making the drive unpleasant. I have experience with brakes of this type having driven Scania Omnicity double deck buses for 12 years in London. We had 13 of these at our garage from new and they have what Scania call a "HALT" brake that operates in a very similar way, other than the fact the driver had control over when it released by pressing the throttle pedal. The version in my 3 series stays on for the correct amount of time according to the manual, and doesn't stick, but there isn't any way of over-riding it with the pedals. You wait 2 seconds and it releases. I'll give an example; pull up in a car park with a kerb in front of the car, apply the footbrake and stop, the "brake assistant" operates but then you realise you're not close enough, release the footbrake, wait 2 seconds and the car moves forward and the M Sport bumper katches the kerb. You could argue, be more careful but thats impossible. See what I'm getting at?

There have been numerous posts on many Forums over the years about this "Driver Aid" but unfortunately BMW's clever brigade appear to have taken a system which has been around for years overly complicate it. Luckily my X5 is of a vintage that doesn't have it.

My AMG's had Hill Hold so does my Wife's Subaru Outback both only work to stop the car rolling back on a slope. What BMW seem to have achieved is a "Drive Off Assistant" that does just the opposite? Progress in traffic must keep you on your toes.

I still think there must be some sort of adjustment that will make easier to live with have you checked www.newtis.info all the service bullitins should be available so you can see if there were any recalls or upgrades

Might be a but late now but I've found if you want to roll inches with brake control (I reverse park on hills everyday) don't press the brake all the way down. There's a 'biting' point where the hill assist kicks in and takes over (stopping your beautiful snail like progress). Alternatively I have heard engaging the handbrake deactivates itbut then no snail rolling can happen at all 🤷‍♀️

With most other marques it only engages if the car rolls back, but Reverse isn't engaged but BMW engineers seem to have excelled in over complication 😂
