Just wanted a bit of advice please.

Recently bought a runaround 2006 e92 330d with 130k. All good so far.

I've noticed on full right lock, just as it's released it makes a loud knocking sound - only when stationary. Its not there when moving or on left lock. No issues with driving it, no vibration and no play.

I thought it might have been suspension related but the local garage (good guys) checked everything out and said the suspension/CV joints etc all looks fine. They advised to take it to an indie as it could be the steering rack.

Any advice on this and the possibilities? Is it dangerous to drive?

When your guys checked did they check the lower steering column joint? It is a universal joint arrangement and they can stiffen up and give all sorts issues/noises, Initially I would lubricate it if the noise disappears you know for sure the culprit. On my first X5 the joint tightened up on right lock but not left? after some spray grease it lasted another 8 to 10k before I had to change it.  It is one of those jobs that's a real fiddle rather than difficult.
