Hello

Looking for some advice.

I purchased a 118D 1 Series in November 2019 66 Plate, vehicle had done just under 20,000 miles. It broke down on me yesterday. Power lost, won’t go above 20MPH and loud whistle noise when driving. Took it to local garage and they advised they believe the turbo has gone. I’ve just come out of the 6 month warranty from the dealership I got it from. Absolutely gutted as I’ve only put 5,000 miles on it since purchase and with the lockdown have hardly used it. Is this a common fault with BMW? I’ve looked online and it uncommon for a turbo to go at 25,000 miles. The dealership aren’t accepting any responsibility as I am out of warranty 😞

Any advice re putting in complaint to BMW? Surely for something major like this to go wrong on a car of such low mileage?!

Does anyone have any experience re cost of replacement etc.

Single Mum and after spending £15K on a car that I though I was investing in to be reliable it has turned into a nightmare!!

Morning Jemma

Welcome to the Forum

First check out the Sale of Goods Act you will still have protection there after only 6 months

Then the car at 3 years old and 20k I am assuming it's service history is BMW probably PDI by the supplying dealer and its first service? Was the supplying Dealer BMW or an Independent? BMW UK Customer services are worth a try.

Now the turbo the issue could be a hose split or off which is something that any home mechanic could fix so get that checked first. If it is the Turbo it's self then contact Midland Turbo.com I have heard god things about them and they are one of the few who will touch BMW turbo's Sensible costs as well.
