525d wont start

my 2002 525d will not start as it thinks it is still in gear and showing  S on the dashboard cluster, It shows 1 when gear lever is pushed over to the left but will not show D,N,R,and P when gear lever is back in automatic mode

Does anyone out there know how to rectify?

    I remember reading somewhere that fuse 30 needs checking, worth a try 

    Also have a look at www.pelicanparts.com for some "how too's" also www.newtis.info this is a BMW Technical site that may help with diagnosis.
