Engine light loud noise

I have the engine light keep coming on. after driving for about 30mins it starts to make a loud noise if i carry on drivin the car starts to lose power. I usaly have to leave the car to settle for a few hours to be able to drive agian. This can last a few days and then it wont happen for a month or so then it will happen agian. Anyone had the same problem or could advise on anythin. Thanks

    Hi Laura....welcome to the Forum

    The loud noise is my main worry...engine lights as long as they are amber in colour is okay but if it is red...then you have big problems.

    If the power is restricted then that also is an issue and one that needs looking at urgently as it won't be safe to drive.

    Either way, I would take into a reputable garage who can run a scan on the engine ECU to determine the cause of the running problem and go from there.

    yes the light is amber and the loud noise is when i put my foot down on the accelerator its sounds realy rough which is why i leave the car to settle. The cars perfect at other times but when i do have this problem it can last for a few days and then not happen agian for ages
