I am looking for some help and advice please.

My son-in-law Tom was a BMW fanatic and owned a number of BMWs but his desire was always to own an E39 540i M sport Touring. He achieved his aim a few years ago and over the last couple of years spent a large amount of money having the car renovated - most critically he had the V8 engine completely rebuilt by an independent BMW specialist and the auto gearbox completely refurbished, as well as improving many other aspects of the car. Since then, it has only been driven a few thousand miles and is in generally very good condition. From what I can gather it is now quite a rare vehicle.

My reason for writing is to ask for advice as to whether you think there is a market for this car either as a complete vehicle or for spares. Unfortunately, Tom died in April at the age of 41 as the result of a two year battle with a brain tumour and he has left his wife (my daughter) and three young children. My daughter clearly has priorities in starting to rebuild their lives and devoting time to trying to find the best thing to do with this car is not one of them! I have therefore promised to help but have no real knowledge or experience of this sort of thing.

I am hoping people will be kind enough either to give me an opinion as to what to do for the best (clearly I need to try and get the best value I can as my daughter needs the money for the family) or point me in the right direction to someone who you think might be able to help.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

So sorry to read about your Son in Law. Life appears to be so unfair at times.

From what I have read these cars do not attract great values these days and are probably one of the best value cars to buy. Late 90's versions go for anything between £1500 and £2500 depending on the mileage. What year and how many miles has it done.

I would search for a similar car on Auto Trader and see what comes up. With all the work that has been done on the car it should put the value up a bit.

Good luck
