Dealing With The Results Of Water Leaks

I have just got my Z3, a 2002 1.9 Sport, oh what joy the car is. But I found evidence of a leak in the passenger footwell, I have so far collected over 6 litres of water and am still left with a carpet which refuses to dry out at the front bulkhead end. It seems the only solution is to cut the carpet where it goes under the plastic trim. Removing the trim seems achievable except for the trim at the side of the centre console - see photo, I have searched everywhere on the web but nowhere does anybody describe how this bit is fixed and I'm reluctant to pull too much without knowing how it is fixed. Can anybody help?
