Mini Cooper S 2004.

Brake lights stops and starts.. working?

Checked the sensor switch, on the foot pedal and all seems fine, and it can't be a fuse as it works.. and then stops working and sort of flashes and off and nothing and on and blip of a flash and again nothing. has anyone else got any ideas or is this a normal problem for BMW minis

any help would be great as I don't want to drive it as it is in case of a read end shunt
