Firstly hi to you all, and many thanks in advance, I am currently to owner of a lovely x5, absolutely fantastic I really do love it, my issue is the front prop shaft, it has had it's day and all the splines going into the transfer box are worn, I know in America there is an extended spline that can be added to the shaft, there fore my question is does anyone in the uk make, sell these. Many thanks again kevin

No drive what so ever just a really loud grinding rattling noise, removed shaft and you can see the wear

Grey dog thanks I will strip it tomorrow and have a good look, the splines on the end of the shaft have worn and started to round, splines inside the tbox are very worn also, this part was engineered to fail, the shaft can be inserted at least another inch but bmw choose not too

Another newbie looking for help....

I bought a 2004 325 ci auto with only 27k on the clock, Happy days. All has been well for the first couple of months until the dreaded cog light came on the other day and sent it into limp mode.

I read all the horror stories until I spotted somewhere that a week battery can cause this?

With this in mind I now notice that the car will send it into this mode when I turn the ignition on in the morning without starting the engine but after a few minutes drive, if I turn the car on and off it clears. I have driven it around a lot recently and there has been no sign of re-occurrence.

The battery shows no real sign of being low as the car fires up a treat, although I do notice the dash board lights illuminate more responsively after a spin up the road from a cold start.

Could the battery be the problem that I have mentioned above? could it be this simple?

cheers,

Gregg
