Hi all new to the forum and have just recently purchased a 2001 x5 3.0 petrol with a damaged engine,so I am now on the lookout for a replacement engine. Can anybody tell me if the engines from a 330 or 530 will fit or cause a lot of issues? or am I going to have buy a engine that has came from another x5? Thanks tom

Have a check on www.realoem.com you can search the 3.0i X5 engine and other models so you will be able to make better comparison.

It is only my opinion but I would guess that the basic engines are the same but the mounting of ancillary's will differ model to model.

Do you need a complete engine or can you rebuild the one you have?

If you are looking to change the engine, any 3 litre engine from the era will be fine (M54B30 if i am not mistaken). As Dave said, you'll just need to swap over auxiliaries which is fine. The bottom end of the engines have not changed. I would suggest getting a donor-vehicle of the same transmission type though.
