Hi guys,

Looking for some advice....

I am looking to replace my standard bmw headunit with a double din headunit.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_1030664_langId_-1_categoryId_165655

That one to be precise.

Is this possible? Would the heater controls need to be moved down?

Any idea of what is required?

Can't see any measurements on Halfords, so I think you need to go in and talk to them direct. Does my memory play tricks on me (Yes, it does sometimes, haha!), but don't they offer a free or at least discounted fitting service? If you're spending loads of dosh, thats probably the way to go. And of course, you'll have a warranty after (oh sorry, IF) they !Removed! up.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated!

I was planning on buying elsewhere, as halfords are £350 and there are other doing it for £250.

problem is i'm getting fitting quotes from audio centres of £250+!

Might end up working out cheaper to go through halfords.

Is it a big job to change it over by yourself?

I've never even touched the original unit in my 328 so the honest answer is I don't know. From previous messing about with cars I've owned in the past, the two "criticals" are removing the existing unit without damaging the surround and the connexions. There could be some wiring changes/additions needed, as standard ISO connexions as generally fitted years ago probably don't apply any more with all the extras like Parrot, Bluetooth, Sat Nav, etc, etc involved, and then you'd definitely need professional help with an audio technician?

I've managed to source a place which are telling me it would £45 for the fascia fittings then just labour costs.

Far better than the first quote I got!

Going up later on today so they can review it so see what would be involved!

Will update you later on with the price!

Thanks very much for your help!

Always a pleasure, Gerard. (Or at least it would be if I could get my missus to stop snoring and move around a bit. :D )
