I am the proud owner of a 735i. I inherited a few issues when i bought it. One of the main ones being an inoperative sunroof. as i bought it last october and it was cold i thought id wait till it became warmer around about now to have the warmer weather to have the time to tackle what ever came up before it started to rain again. i first looked at it a couple of weeks ago when i plucked up the courage to prize the roof cover off. To my surprise there was a hole where the motor should be. at that point i was just happy that the sunroof was in the closed position. I spent several weeks sourcing the right motor. i had to ring a dealer and get that info. i should have rung them first. now I have a spare motor.

I have fitted the newer one in the vehicle however whilst it tilts and opens it only opens approx 8 inches though more important for me is the fact that there appears to be a roof lining peice attached to the steel part of the sunroof however the whole steel crossmember that holds the peice of sunroof in possition when shut, is completely visible and somehow i cant see BMW leaving a car like this. It seems wrong somehow as though a larger sliding part of the rooflinning sunroof is missing!!!

First off id like to know if i have another part missing as i am guessing and secondly should the motor move open more than 8 inches. any advice would be gratefully received

many thanks in anticipation New member Cl57-2009

The roof should virtually disappear into the roof, maybe showing just an inch or so... I think you should disconnect the motor from the sunroof and operate the motor into its fully closed state then reconnect - Abit like resetting if you like. Make sure the tracks are not obstructed. And while you're in the roof, get some stiff wire and clear its drains !

When fully connected you can reset it electronically by opening as normal then release, then close 'n hold for ten secs ;)

As for the "missing" part, bung some pics up !
